Penn-Plax Bird Cage Starter Kit, Cage with Toys, Treats, Games, Ladder, and Wood Perch for Medium Sized Birds

Awesome cage. We just purchased a Green Cheek Conure which is a Small Parrot. This cage is a great size for him. We ordered this cage to match the one we already have for our Quaker Parrot (also a small Parrot). Perfect size, and it comes with food/water dishes, perches, and a toy. Definitely worth it. I would not use the cage for larger birds though. Appropriate cage size should be researched before buying a cage. The cage bars are fairly thick and the perches/dishes are of good quality as well. My only complaint is that the doors to access food/water dishes are a bit tough to open unless you pull forward on the bars and lift the doors at the same time, but because of this, I do not have to worry about the birds getting out.

Cage arrived in a box that had several holes. The cage itself was very scratched and the base looked used. The toys that came with it smelled moldy and had to be thrown away for the safety of the bird. The cage itself is nice and sturdy, just needed a good cleaning.

Let’s start with the cage then get to the horror story: I did not have any issues with cage. Went together well and worked well for travel purposes for my Cockatoo. If you have a cockatoo that bends bars for fun, this is not the cage for them as the bars bend relatively easily. Luckily mine does not, but it gave her plenty of room to move around. Now the horror story: included in the cage package was a bag of treats called “Tweetos.” I gave her a few on two occasions and she wanted nothing to do with them. I tried to give her a few more earlier today and she didn’t touch them until a few hours ago. After she ate them, she started sneezing over and over, 5-10 times in a row. I removed her from her cage and brought her into another room on a perch thinking she had a respiratory issue, which she has never had. The amount she sneezed lessened to about 3-5 times every few minutes, but they became more violent and she began to have difficulty breathing. Then she doubled over and threw up the “Tweetos.” Immediately she improved, started talking and hasn’t sneezed in over an hour. Do not give this to your bird if they have not had it before, these almost killed my Cockatoo.

Needed to down size, my little conure is quite old. And we as well. They gave us a lot of goodies with this. But my bird chews up every thing. So some things I will donate. But all and all good buy easier for me to handle.

The cage is good quality with thick & sturdy bars, and is probably worth at least $100 by itself. It comes with: 2 feeding bowls, 2 wooden perches, a really thick calcium perch, a rope toy, a calcium treat block, and a cuttlebone. Pros: Good quality items Cheap price Fast shipping (at least it was for me) Relatively easy to put together Cons: Not suitable for birds bigger than a cockatiel Theres no copper bell The 'starter kit' part is really old & the cuttlebone may be too old to use There's practically no instructions aside from a few basic diagrams Notes: The rest of the 'starter kit' is fine to use even though it's a bit old. Even though the instructions are just a few pictures, it's still relatively easy to put together. You just need a bit of muscle to get the roof of the cage on. The 'starter kit' is called: PENN-PLAX Parrots & Conures Value Kit The weird, way too small piece is for in case you want to add a shelf.

Love how easy it is to clean, how sturdy. My bird loves how much room he has, and also room for toys!

Décu de cette cage, les barreaux étaient écaillés et j'ai dû refaire la peinture sur plusieurs barreaux avec de la peinture sans plomb pour cage. Par contre une cage robuste.
