I use it regularly, cleans the water fantastically, the charcoal is the one of the past now we have this product, excellent great does what is required and more, quality (make sure you have a mesh bag it makes it easier) try it and you will not be disappointed all the best to this respectable and serious manufacturer (I am not against charcoal There is room for him too.)

Absolutely a MUST for any aquarium with water
So this is absolutely incredible. I placed it into the space of my filter. Basically, I didn’t touch the filter, but within the space of the filter I placed this. It fit. It is a fairly small packet. What happened after, is just amazing. My water was crystal clear. It never got cloudy or yellowish or anything of the sort. It literally solved all my issues with the water; and my fish are alive and well. I have glo fish mostly. The packet is lasting me now for almost a year, and I simply wash it once per month or so. Again, the speed with which my water got cleared and clean, and stayed that way, is within a day or so. This is absolutely recommended for anyone with an aquarium. No smell too by the way. Thank you and enjoy guys.

Tannin stained water - BUY THIS!
This is amazing stuff! I bought some driftwood for my tank and even after rinsing the water turned a dark murky brown. I googled a fix and this came up so I ordered. Within a few hours the water was remarkably clearer and by morning crystal clear. Very happy with my purchase! I wish I had a before and after photo to share because the change is amazing!

Purigen By Seachem For Unsurpassed Water Quality
Considering I've only had Purigen in two filters for less than 48 hours, this review may be too early. However, based on what I've observed so far, I think it may be of some help to others for me to let you know my initial impression.First, there's no filter media on the market that's like it. Purigen is made up of millions of tiny synthetic macro resin absorbent. These absorbents act as lock in sponges in the removal nitrogenous waste. Nitrogenous waste is the waste material from fish and plants that , along with uneaten food left to decompose is the cause enemy # 1 - ammonia. Purigen does more than remove ammonia, it also removes soluble and insoluble impurities from the water at rate of 500% more than any other product on the market. It also increase the Redox Potential in your aquarium. I had to research this, but in a nut shell - Redox is the loss of a molecule or atom to gain another molecule or atom When this happens essential minerals can't be absorbed by the fish, their immune system can be compromised making them more susceptible to disease. Redox Potential is not only a critically important part of keeping healthy water parameters and equally healthy fish - but something that's almost entirely overlooked by hobbyists. Purigen encourage a healthy and balanced Redox Potential in aquariums which helps maintain richer oxygen levels and fend off disease. I chose to try Purigen out in a tank with hazy water, it gets direct sunlight so this has always been a problem. The Purigen itself is like a soft fine powder. I can see why you need to use such a fine mesh media bag of at least 180. The Seachem media bag won't break down, has welded seams and a plastic snap around tie to prevent it from opening under water pressure. (make sure you fill the bag over a sink, that stuff can blow out everywhere) You know when your replacing media or adjusting something inside a canister filter, turn it back on and all the debris that's been stirred up blasts into your tank? Well, that's exactly what happened, I thought I would do a 50% water change and siphon the gravel. But was pressed for time. I return home an hour later and the water is completely clean - and I don't mean just clean but pristine and sparkling. Back in 2010 after I bought my first UV sterilizer, I posted about it here on Amazon. I was amazed at how in 24 hours the water had become so beautifully clear. That was nothing compared to this, it was as if I had my Diatom XL running for 48 hours straight. The water is so absolutely crystal - it's almost surreal. Considering Purigen can be regenerated over and over it's economical to boot. After six months if it's turned a dark brown you soak the entire bag in a 1;1 solution of bleach and water and it returns to it's original state. You rinse it well, soak it in water treated with Prime and you're good to go for another six months. I'm more than incredibly impressed with Purigen and have already ordered more - it's going into every filter we have.

This works!
Gets tannins out and returns water clear in just a couple of days. Like magic. Lasts a good month for a larger tank, says you can bleach and reuse but I haven't tried that I'd be afraid to. Just popped it into the filter tank. Be careful opening the bag, don't do it with scissors I accidentally cut the first, oh and rinse it before putting it in.

Great with live plants, excellent regeneration process.
I found the most difficult information to retrieve was if this product works as well when you have a planted tank. I tested myself and I can say that after two weeks my plants still growing without any sign of nutrient deficiency. I really waned to give this product 5 stars. However, I've been told that it does not much more compared to a carbon filter (which I never used so I personally cannot compared). I really like it tho, and I really suggest it to buy if you don't like to mess with carbon filter and replace it every 2-3 weeks. As the product say it absorbs all the organic compound in the water. I have some piece of drift wood in my tank, and the water was starting to get pretty cloudy. I insert the media in the filter and after 12 hours I could see the magical difference. The water got incredibly clear. After a week the nitrogen level went down to zero (I had NO3 at about 15ppm). The down side is that my starting water was pretty cloudy (my fault), and the product absorbed a lot of it. After two weeks the bag looks pretty brown. I think I will have to do the cleaning process pretty soon. I will wait until the bag turn completely brown, or the water start to look cloudy again. The company claim that which 100ml you can use it for up to 100 gallons for about 4 to 6 months. I think is a little bit over estimating the range. I read several review that do not trust the cleaning process using bleach, and then soak it with de-chlorinator, I will update my review once I do a cleaning cycle. Other than that I recommended this product to two of my friend that have nitrogen or cloudy water. And If it was the case I would definitely buy it again. Update 4-8-13: I have the filter in place for almost 2 month, and it still keep the water clear. My tank is currently overstock, and I have no issues at all with water quality. I did not have to replace any filter cartridge. And I have not done the regeneration process. Great product. Update 4-24-13: I was starting to get the water little bit cloudy, so I decided to do the famous regeneration process. As soon as I dip it into the bleach/water solution it turned incredibly white. I let it soak for 24 hours, then took it out and soak in the Prime/water solution for 8 hours. After I took it out it didn't smell like chlorine at all. I wasn't sure so I dip it into some water for a bit, and test the water. Zero chlorine at the end. I place it back in the filter. There are few companies out there that make really good products for aquarium. Seachem is one of the best and one that you can always trust. You get your money worth on any of their products.

Takes impurities out of water.
Put one or two of these as the last thing in your filter water path. The packs start out as white and over time absorb impurities in the water that the filters can't. The results is that water impurities your filters miss will get absorbed by this and the water will be very clear. Always be sure your physical filters are filtering out the vast majority of the physical debri in the water to avoid clogging these too quickly. When they turn from white to brown, its time to change them out. They are somewhat expensive to replace all the time but many people will just replace them with new ones. But if you want to take an extra amount of time, you can recycle the spent packs and save yourself some money. Usually these can be recycled 3 or 4 times and reused till they fail to clean anymore. To recycle packs, get a tupperware like container you will only use for the recycling purpose. Be sure to never use it for food again. Put your spent packs into it and fill it to the brim with chlorine bleach. Put a lid on it if you want to comtain the bleach smell. Leave it for a day or two but be sure all the packs stay submerged. After a day or two, the stuff that was in the Purigen has dissolved into the bleach. The Purigen will be mostly white or yellow. Pour out the bleach and thoroughly rinse everything with tap water. Put the packs back into the container and this time put tap water into it with a heavy dose of Seachem Prime or antichlor product. This removes the chlorine from the pacs over the next day or two. Rinse it all again. Now the nearly white Purigen packs are ready to go back into a filter the next time you do a change. After a few times of recharging, the packs will have less and less turn back to white and you just have to discard and replace them. Hopes this helps you save some money by reusing Purigen.

Impressed!
Seachem Purigen 100 mL is a must-have for any fish tank. It does a great job keeping the water clear and clean by removing waste before it turns into bigger problems. I noticed the tank looked cleaner and fresher after using it. It is also relatively cheap for how effective it is, and a little goes a long way. Great value for the price and easy to use in a filter bag. Highly recommend for anyone who wants better water quality and a healthier-looking aquarium.
