Julia Donaldson's Songbirds Read with Oxford Phonics 36 Books Collection Set (Stage 1 - 4)

These readers are delightful! The stories make sense, are interesting, and are often funny. So many early reader books have no narrative arc and are either boring or ridiculous or both. These books have clear targeted reading skills that are presented in engaging, amusing stories. We have always been a fan of Julia Donaldson and have enjoyed her classics “Room on the Broom” and “The Gruffalo” but somehow hadn’t heard of her Songbird readers. I’m so glad we stumbled upon them. My kids love them. Do yourself and your young reader a favor and buy them now. You won’t regret it!

great set of books for my daughter. she’s already at 1st-2nd grade reading level, but these are nice & simple reviews for her. the stories contain a bit of british english (like “mum” for mom, “bin” for trash can, “cross” for mad, etc), but it adds a cultural element to the learning as well!

We own both this Songbirds set and Bob Books. Unlike Bob Books, Songbirds teach phonics through engaging stories with actual plots and characters, not just simple sentence drills. The storylines keep kids interested and make reading feel fun rather than like an exercise.

I am impressed. The second time my daughter picked up Top Cat, she read the whole thing. It was the first book she has ever read. She has been working on relating sounds to letters and has shown many signs of being ready to read. She was so proud of doing it on her own. I have only looked through the level one books so far, but they are great. They introduce the letters that are the focus of the book at the front, and the sounds are consistent throughout. The pictures are fun and the words tell a short story. I did a lot of searching for a good set of beginner books and I am so glad I found these.

While these books do not have the charm and appeal of Donaldson's other books (e.g., Room on the Broom, The Gruffalo), they are good books for children learning to read. I appreciate that they come in a case and are organized by reading level.

These were worth the money. Very good decodable readers with multiple reading levels. Julia Donaldson writes very entertaining stories with lessons to learn. My daughter enjoys the books as well as I do. As an American, the author included some British language in it that had to be explained. These words didn’t happen very often, and were also do decodable .

These are the best early readers we've ever had. My child is enthusiastically progressing through this series. It may seem like a big initial investment which made me a bit reluctant at first, but having known and loved Julia Donaldson's work I went ahead and I'm so glad I did. They're actually a very good deal when you break down the cost per book. We've spent more on single books that quickly lost interest. These books are unlike any others we've read and our child is totally getting it because of these. Thank you Julia Donaldson!

Wonderfully illustrated phonics-based sequence of books covering the letter-sound correspondences children need to learn to become successful readers. One of the best series of decodable books on the market. I highly recommend it.

Great selection of books over 4 levels. 36 books in total by a great author. A better buy than why I saw through other websites.

Product and packaging were nicely packaged in the box. Books were well received in good condition. I was so excited to receive the books but upon opening the package, the folder was left open and button was defective. Hopefully in future there won’t be such incidents again.

I bought these to assist my son now he is at primary school. I found the books he was bringing home looked old and they seemed to send the same ones. He loves the variety of these stories. The pictures are so vibrant and they are really helping his development.
