High Quality, Heavy Duty Safe
Excellent safe - very pleased with this purchase. After looking long and hard for an adequate safe for multiple pistols I own, I came across this safe by chance, and overall, it had everything I wanted. Other safes I was looking at were quite small, looked flimsy, and even though they featured biometric capability, the user reviews left me very unnerved - some being broken into by children, while others being broken into with a firm strike with a fist. I am sure such stories were rare, but the fact that such incidents occurred left me highly wary of making a purchase. Not only is this safe larger than most within this price category, but the door and (4) bolt locking system is very robust. I was very pleased to see how solid and well built everything looked, and the heft / weight of this safe leaves me feeling confident that my firearms will be kept safe from curious children. Some users mentioned the carpeted shelves being flimsy and easy to give way. Yes, the shelves are very basic, but I had no troubles securing them in place with several firearms worth of weight that did not cause them to tilt or break free. Further, they are adjustable, allowing you to place them in differing areas, based upon your storage preferences. The locking mechanism feels very robust and stout - you can feel the (4) heavy duty bolts locking firmly into place, and the door has a nice solid heft to it as well. As for the keypad, it was very easy to program, and is very easy to use with soft push button keypads that allow you to input a (5) numerical code - everything except "00000", which would be ludicrous to use. I prefer this numerical keypad style of entry versus biometrics, as the more I read about biometric access, the less certain I felt. I am sure there are some excellent biometric safes available, but I simply like the basic numerical entry - safe, simple & effective, especially if you need access without fuss & bother. One of the features I like about this is the fact that if an incorrect code is inputted more than (3) times over, the system will lock out for a full (2) minutes, which will discourage a curious or malicious person trying to crack your code. In terms of security, this safe can be bolted down to the floor, which is wise to do, if you have the means to do so. The included bolts are very heavy duty, and would be very effective in keeping anyone from removing this safe from your residence. Without the bolts (despite the 100+ lbs. weight of this safe), a malicious person could pick up this safe and walk away with it - demonstrated by the fact that our FedEx driver carried the safe into our home. Access can be made with the keypad code that you enter, or in the case of battery failure (or forgetting your access code), the safe comes with (2) skeleton style keys. What I like about the keys is the fact that the key entry is 100% hidden behind the removable keypad, which is not obvious at all. One would have to be knowledgeable about this feature to utilize it correctly, so I really like this hidden aspect. However, it is highly prudent such keys are hidden with great care, as curious minds could easily ascertain this information with a basic Google search. So, if you have young children or teenagers alike, be 100% sure this set of keys is in a locale they could never find - with them, access to the safe is moments away. One aspect that would be nice is interior LED lighting, as it is quite dark further back into the safe itself. However, you can easily find auto illuminating LED's for this very application, so this is an easy add-on to a well built safe. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. I feel confident that this safe will vastly discourage anyone from gaining access to my firearms, and I trust that this layer of protection will keep my family safe, as I always want to be as responsible as possible when it comes to firearms - especially with curious children who simply do not know better, no matter how much they are taught or drilled. Whether your intent is to store firearms like me, or other valuable possessions, I feel that this Sentry Safe is one of the best on the market when you break down the size, pricing and features. I am very happy with my purchase, and look forward to utilizing this safe to its fullest potential.

Generally pleased with my purchase. There were some issues associated with it but no show stoppers.
The safe arrived early, kudos to the delivery personnel. Initially, they could not find the safe on their truck because side of the shipping box with the address label was face down and separated from the rest of the box. I presume this was a loading issue and some items may not have been secured for transport somewhere along the lengthy journey from China to Northeastern US. Generally pleased with the purchase. A few issues to highlight. The safe has about five or six scratches or bruises on the exterior; none major. Probably the result of handling. The safe was dusty inside and out. The left front shelf bracket was loose with two screws dislodged and unable to be firmly reinserted. I made a workaround. The safe must have been sitting in a warehouse for some while. There was some white powder material in various places inside the safe, probably from the insulation and (rough) handling again. Some of the interior covering material was loose. Likely, again related to repeat handling. Finally, the door handle is a little loose. Quality of product – A. Shipping and delivery – A-. Condition of product – B.

Things you should know
The safe came and is the right dimensions, thickness; it's large and can fit a lot of valuables. The problem is there is an EXTREMELY BAD smell on opening the safe, unlike any other safe I've smelt, and the safe has EXTREMELY HIGH HUMIDITY WHICH IS VERY VERY BAD FOR VALUABLES. Isn't the POINT of a safe to be able to place valuables in it???!! I put in baking soda two days ago and the smell is still not diminished. This was not clear to me despite reading the full Q&A (almost 100 questions) and reading all the reviews. Let me quote from the first page of the manual: "NOTICE: Do NOT store delicate items directly in your safe. SentrySafe products which offer fire protection have a proprietary insulation that has a high moisture content. In addition, the SentrySafe advanced safe close airtight to offer water resistance, which may also cause moisture to accumulate inside your safe...Please open your unit once every two weeks to avoid moisture accumulation. If you choose to store delicate items such as jewelry with working parts, watches, stamps or photos in your safe, we recommend putting them in an air-tight container, prior to placing them int he safe for storage. SentrySafe will not be responsible for any damage or loss of items placed in the unit due to moisture. Do NOT store pearls in this safe....No computer disks, audio-visual cassettes or photo negatives..." I am considering returning this thing but want to see how much I can de-humidify the safe. It's ridiculous how difficult it is to store valuables in this safe given it is basically like a sauna inside it. It is very bulky and I have it in an awkward place in my house and do not look forward to trying to ship this back. (I am also having a problem with the keypad). Do NOT recommend!

High quality and spacious safe with one major (but correctable) design flaw
I don't normally write product reviews, but felt compelled to review this safe. I own another (deposit style) safe from Sentrysafe and have been very happy with the overall build quality. I was looking for a slightly larger safe that offered more organization and usable space. This safe is very high quality, sturdy (and very heavy--100lbs). It has several very useful features including soft inner light, backup key access, and carpeted shelves. **If you read the reviews on this safe, I think most would agree on the superb materials, fit, and finish. Many of the negative reviews point to a flawed battery compartment design. The battery compartment for this safe is located on the INSIDE of the safe (as opposed to behind the keypad on the OUTSIDE of the door). This means that the safe needs to be OPEN to change the batteries. Unfortunately, there is a significant gap between the battery tray and lid so closing the heavy safe door can dislodge the batteries and disconnect the circuit, rendering the electronic keypad unusable and you will need to use the back-up key to manually open the safe. This completely defeats the purpose and convenience of the electronic keypad altogether. Some people have reported a few jerry-rigged solutions like inserting a piece of cardboard in between or taping the batteries in place. I had some extra furniture foam pads (the kind you stick under chair/sofa/table legs etc... (to prevent scratching hardwood floors) and stuck a few of them across the inside of the plastic lid cover. This eliminates the gap and secures the batteries in place when closing the safe door regardless of how (reasonably) hard I tried. Problem solved! I totally agree that this is a major technical fail in the engineering and design of an otherwise extremely high quality safe. I took a chance with this minor modification and couldn't be happier with the final quality and value of this safe!

So far so good, even I have to return the first delivery
So far so good, even I have to return the first delivery, which was damaged during packing or shipping, but Amazon replace it very fast. This safe looks decent, and it has plenty of space inside. It was not easy to open in the beginning, especially for someone like me not have strong hands, but it getting better with frequent using. I give 4 stars, because the inside is so dark, have to use flashlight, I wish they have a light turn on when you open the door.

BEST VALUE FOR SAFES!
A very sturdy, heavy and decent safe for the money. I love everything except one thing: The cheap, plastic battery holder. Removing it was fairly easy but it took me 30 minutes to get it to snap back into place. Why they went cheap here is beyond me! They could have added a metal container and attach it with a screw. That's the only flaw this safe has. Plenty of room inside. It's fairly easy to move around even for one person so if you are looking at the safe as a primary security you are going to want to bolt it to the wall of ground (It comes with the bolts). Not an issue for me as my home is alarmed and my primary reason for this safe is fire protection.

Safe doesn't sit flat on the floor
I've had the safe a little over a week. I had read in one review to keep it on it's back for 3 days to set the seals for the door. This is the second safe of the same model that was delivered. The first had a bow on both top and bottom. The bow on the bottom made it impossible to level - even after mounting to the floor. Amazon exchanged this for another one, and this one was flat on the top, but still bowed on the bottom. It didn't seem to be quite as bowed as the first, but still was enough that it was easy to rock, or even sorta spin. Why is it so hard to make a safe with a flat bottom? I was tempted to send it back, too, but wondered how many would have to be sent back before finding one with a flat bottom. Does Sentry do any QC of the safes? If so, how many actually have flat bottoms? I'm 0 for 2, so I'm thinking there might not be very many. We unpacked the safe when it was delivered and there did not appear to be any signs of damage from shipping. As someone else posted, the safe was shipped in a cardboard box and was plastic wrapped. The bottom piece of cardboard basically fell off as they were unloading it. But again, no scratches or dents on the safe, other than the bowed bottom (and bowed top of the first safe). Rather than exchanging this safe, yet again, I bought some plastic shims and after mounting to the floor was able to shim it on all sides such that it is now pretty stable. I have read all reviews and have not found mention of the safe with a bowed bottom. I was really surprised to have received 2 of them. And yes, I checked my floor with a level and it was flat, so the problem wasn't the floor. I've included a couple of pictures of the safe with the shims, FYI. Now about the mounting. Shame on me I took the manual at it's word that I would need a 3/8 bit to install the anchors in concrete. Wrong. The plastic anchors need a 1/2" hole. Trying to fit the anchor into a 3/8" hole simply destroyed it. And even after drilling a 1/2" hole, these anchors didn't really hold very well. For concrete installation, I purchased a couple of metal sleeves which expand when the screw is inserted. These metal sleeves requires a 5/8" hole. So be sure you have a 5/8" concrete bit available if you're going this route. The sleeve itself is 1 11/16" long. The screw is 2 5/8" long. The safe bottom appears to be 1/4" thick. Thus the screw will extend 2 3/8" below the safe. I started by drilling a 3/8" hole 2 3/8" into the concrete. I then drilled a 5/8" hole 1 3/4". This would set the top of the sleeve basically flush with the top of the concrete. The additional depth of the 3/8" hole give the screw tip somewhere to go. Once the safe was in place over the holes, I first put the washers through the inner openings and set them flush on the safe floor. I then inserted the screw and tightened. Using plastic shims, I them leveled the safe using shims on all four sides. I can't comment on mounting this to a wooden floor, but noted the holes on the bottom of the safe aren't 16" on center, so if you were lucky to hit one floor joist, you probably won't be so lucky with the other. Not sure how well these plastic anchors work if you're just mounting on the floor / sub-floor of a room. I next went to install the shelves inside the safe. I noticed the screws holding the shelving rails to the side of the safe walls were really sloppy. Some weren't screwed in all the way. Others seemed to be driven into obtuse angles rather than perpendicular with the wall. It just made everything look shoddy. So far, the capacity of the safe is just perfect for what we need. As some indicated, the digital lock panel is plastic and kind of flimsy, but it has been working for me so far. I haven't tried to access the holes for the skeleton keys (under the keypad). I don't think we will be accessing the safe frequently, so we might not notice issues others have documented which seem to occur with frequent (daily?) use.
