The School of Life: An Emotional Education: An Emotional Education Review: It really does provide a “school of life.” - So…this boomer has a confession: I am thanking Dr Alain de Botton from the bottom of my heart (relishing my abnormal weird crazy idiot side as recommended by the author. Get it. De Botton from the bottom) for his hard work and insights that led to writing this book. I interacted with this book extensively underlining and annotating it extensively in an attempt to glean and remember its many gems. My boyfriend said he is also interested in reading it. Dr de Botton emphasizes that love is a skill, contrary to our current romantic notion of finding the perfect soul mate, and de botton’s philosophy is for those who love each other to teach each other. You will have to read the book to learn what constitutes a good teacher. I hope I get to meet Dr de Botton someday. Signed, CherylAE Since posting this I have bought two more copies—one for my boyfriend and another for my daughter. I’m looking forward to discussing it with them. Maybe they will let me video some of our discussions and post it. Smile See how much I underlined and annotated in the picture. Smile. Review: Wisdom at its best! - Not only the best gift to oneself but to someone you love and care for… This is the type of book that makes me feel that if everyone read it, humanity would be so much happier.

Great book for self growth and getting to see the "missing parts" of yourself.
Deep book, it's a great book if you're looking for a deep dive into your psyche and getting to know yourself better. Alain writes in a unique way that you fall in love with every single word as you keep on reading this book.

not bad
What I love most about it is the way it blends philosophy, psychology, and practical advice without feeling heavy or overly academic. Each chapter feels like a friendly chat with a wise friend who just gets it. The illustrations are a nice touch too, adding a bit of fun to the reading experience.

Wonderful read!
One of the best books I've ever read (and I'm a reader). Fascinating look at ourselves, our behaviors, our perceptions and how they can be modified for our benefit and that of the world. The manis brilliant!

Wish I read this sooner!
Great book that's a manual on being a human. It's sections on self are fantastic, and the section on relationships is immensely helpful. I'm going to buy this book for everyone I know.

A great guide book into the most important jouney into the nature of our emotional lives!
If you are even vaguely interest in your own personal development as an emotional human being, or the development of you adult children, I could not recommend anything more strongly than this. Not exactly a self-help book, rather it places the journey of our emotional development into a larger context than any one particular issue, problem, or malady. I would also note that is not a scientific journal sort of thing. It is really just one of the most pleasant guided excursions into the forces shaping who we are as emotional beings, and how we might respond to those forces . Now if you are saying, 'well I have reached full maturity in regard to my emotional development' please be advised that I just turned 70 and continue to discover much I did not know about my on-going emotional development even at this advanced age. The writing is quite elegant and eloquent, so the narrative flows very nicely. I have already ordered multiple copies for friends and family, and in each case am recommending that they pass the book on to their children when they are done. By children I would suggest starting at ages of 18 and up. Enjoy the journey
