GOOD QUALITY KNIFE FOR A GREAT PRICE.
First, I have owned an Old Timer Barlow pocket knife for over 40 years and it has served me well around the world in the Marine Corps. I have dozens of knives, and have used knives since I started carrying one at age 5. I'm not new to knives and I know quality when I see it. I don't have any negatives about this knife so far, so thus the 5 star. It is still new, but seems to be of good quality. The sheath is a darker chestnut brown leather than that shown on the photo. It is sewn with heavy thread, and good quality leather. The snap is substantial and shouldn't present any problems with popping open. It opens and closes with a firm snap. The knife seems to be well-detailed. No scratches, mars, etc. The knife has a good heft in your hand. It feels like a real knife that will be up to any task for which it is designed. The blade opens easily, and the locking mechanism snaps into place. This is actually for my 9 1/2 year old son, and he has trouble depressing the locking mechanism to close the knife, but I expected that. It is, after all, a LOCKING mechanism, and you don't want it TOO easy to unlock. There seems to be no danger of it closing on your hand unexpectedly. I really wanted him to use this with me present for a while anyway, so that's not a bad thing. As he gets older, he will have the finger strength to operate it with no problems. The case is imprinted with "Old Timer", not "Schrade", as shown, by the way. The riviets in the handle seem solid and are well-polished. The handle is, I think, simulated bone, probably a plastic of some kind, but has the feel and look of bone. It has serrations cut into the material to prevent slippage in your hand. Both ends of the knife are brass and there are no rough edges anywhere. There is a steel rivet through the end where the blade hinge attaches, and it is polished down so there is no bump sticking out above the brass end cap. I am looking forward to having my son use this on an upcoming campout. As it is new, I can't speak to how it will last, but it seems to be a "lifetime" knife that he will be using with his son someday. I'm pleased with this purchase, and would purchase again! You won't find much better in the $20 range like this Old Timer. I have read the other reviews and the concerns about new ownership of the brand, etc. I think they have kept the quality control of the old company.

Old Timer 70T
This is the second one I have bought and it will be a gift. It's a great knife for the money $25. If you buy this knife when it comes in you will have to clean the brass to make it shine, the two knives I bought I had to polish the brass, if you look at pictures on site one looks shinny but the other pics of brass look dull, they look really nice when polished and I really like the Old Timer brand, knife blade is sharp and will shave hair off my arm, excellent leather pouch. Knife and pouch well made.

Schrade, a respected US company with a quality product for reasonable cost...
I have carried a pocket knife my whole life, they always come in handy. I also loose them all the time. This time I decided to buy one that was a little larger and had a belt cast to keep it safe. So far so good. I have also owned all kinds of pocket knives over the years as well. Some very expensive gifts others not so expensive. The Schrade knife is an old company and makes a quality product at a fair price. The leather case is heavy gauge leather and should last longer then me. The knife has a solid feel in my hand and all the parts have a good tight fit. The locking mechanism is positive with no play or wiggle. This simulated bone covers look good and are durable. This is an excellent knife for the working man, handyman or woodman. It's solid, sharp and sturdy, best of all easy to find when you drop it in the grass...

Great beater knife.
It's a decent knife for the money. It did require some lubrication and break in to open relatively smoothly. Knife has done all camp and hunting tasks I have asked of it. Fit and finish leaves something to be desired, but for a using (beater) type knife it works just fine. Seems relatively ease to sharpen.

Great Knife
I am very pleased with this Knife, came sharp out of box,I sharpend it any ways,Very sturdy Knife,Blade holds very good edge, The sheath on the other hand, well stitching came apart on belt loop after 2 weeks,so i took the sheath apart and replaced all stitching with 8lb test fishing line, fixed that problem ,now its a great sheath that will last for a very long time. I give it 5 stars because, the price is great,I like that its lighter than the older ones,it does everything i need it to and I abuse Knifes and it holds up to my uses.

This knife is a great beater/Buck 110 saver!! It's not as scary as the negative reveiws would have you believe.
This knife is a great beater Buck 110 saver & feels great in the hand. If you love the Buck 110 format or the old Schrade/Old Timer folding hunters.....you'd appreciate these. Are they the quality of old.....obviously not, they're made in China nowadays. I think you'll find a great user knife that costs around half of the Buck 110 w/adequate 7CR steel & acceptable quality. If you could only buy one knife like this, I recommend the Buck 110 or 112 for the better 420 HC w/great Buck heat treat, higher quality build & superior hollow grind/sharpness. Me, I'm saving my Buck knives for hunting/caping tasks & beating the snot out of my Chinese made Old Timers. Checkout the 6OT too....if you might prefer this w/only the top end nickel silver bolster & the plus of a lanyard hole! On the other hand the 60OTW w/desert iron wood handle scales is something you may want to display as it's beautiful.....& all these are very inexpensive!! Hope this helps! I love these nostalgic looking/feeling knives.

You will not find a better $20 knife in it's class
I am an avid knife enthusiast and have owned 100s of knives over the years This knife rivals more expensive knives. It is made with quality materials, is very sturdy, and came to me with a sharp edge. I have seen some reviews and can't see anyone giving this knife less than a 5 star rating, unless you have some manufacturers flaw, which I never have with any Old Timer knife I have ever owned. I believe you are getting an extremely nice, well built tool that can't be beat for what you have to pay.
