At first that red strap felt unnecessary but after using it, it feels practical. Zero flex or stretchability when it comes to wearing it without unlacing it. I added elastic laces and now it feels much better. This product would have been even better and more comfortable if it came with a memory foam sole. The laces could have been improved.
