Work well. Check suction before each use for safety.
I had looked at this style before and just wasn't sure about how secure they would be. After surgery, my home health occupational therapist recommended I get these, so I did. I like these because they seem to lock, though it is a bit difficult to close the lock. How well they stay adhered over time depends on the surface. The surface needs to be clean, straight (not warped at all). I got two, and one has remained sturdily affixed since I applied it two months ago. The other one is on a surface area that moves slightly, so the bottom seal loosens over a few days time. I always check both handles before using, and the one that loosens I simply retighten when I check. These are NOT for putting your entire body weight on, but for balance and stability. If a person is very unstable, then screwed in handles need to be installed. For those who just need a bit of help to remain stable, these are good.

Works for me
I have Ataxia which is a balance and coordination disorder. I purchased this product in 2020 and it has lost its ability to stay on the wall. I am a large person. I DO NOT use this handle to support my weight! I use it to keep stabilized when needed not to support my weight if I ever fall. If and when my condition worsens I might consider those that are secured via studs but for the past this has done what it was intended to do and hopefully will continue into the foreseeable future. I will be ordering a new one! Other notes that may be helpful in your search. My shower is small at about 3 x 4 feet so, I always am always close to a wall. The shower walls are constructed with smooth non textured tile.

BUYER BEWARE ~ THESE ARE AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN
Carex Extra Ultra Grip Shower Wall Grab Bars ~ I purchased two; one for the bath tub and another for the shower. They installed easily and had a strong suction lock to the tub and shower walls. Late last night I heard a loud thud. I thought something had fallen off a shelf in the closet. Nope ~ it was the grab bar / grip in the the shower; spontaneously let loose and feel across the shower hitting the wall. So I thought maybe it was a fluke or I had installed it incorrectly. I re-installed both suction grab bars again per the instructions. I was getting out of the bath tub this morning and went to use the grab bar to steady myself climbing out. The top half of the grab bar swung loose and I lost my footing. Thankfully, I was not hurt, just upset especially when I realized I could have broken an arm or a leg. BUYER BEWARE ~ if you are counting on these things to offer security and protection, DON'T. These are broken bones waiting to happen. I don't know if I can return them, the packaging is such that it needs to be destroyed to remove the grab bars, but I am going to try.

Useful but use wth caution
I have mixed feelings about this grab bar. I have a serious back problem and a fall in the tub could be very dangerous. I recently sold my house and am in a rental apartment where I cannot install a grab bar. So this seemed like the best solution. The surround is made of 4" tiles. The unit fits well between the tiles and creates a good suction grip. I use it to help steady myself in the shower and for this it works well. I do not place much weight on it as it's not engineered for that. However, there have been a couple of times when it suddenly and unexpectedly let loose. This could lead you to lose your balance if you were not expecting it. Each time it reattached just fine. Bottom line -- it's a suction cup. Not screws into a stud. If any leakage occurs, it will fail. So here is what I recommend: 1. Test it every time you get into the tub. Make sure it is still sticking tightly to the wall. 2. Do not place your weight on it. It's a stable handle to help you keep your balance but not a grab bar that will support you if you fall. Of course make certain that the wall is clean when you apply it. The levers and indicator work well. Just don't push it beyond its capacity and expect it to hold your weight.

Great item to make a shower stall more handicap accessible!
Works great! I bought one for the master bathroom last summe it has been so awesome I decided to get one for the second bathroom. I love the color indicators that let you know when it is securely attached and will support weight. I had brain tumor removal surgery and a fall with a head injury could have been fatal, but a permanent handle could not be attached to the glass. My therapist recommended this and it worked perfectly. Thank you!

Can lose suction even though green is on
Bought one for my mother a few months ago and she said it helped her hold onto something as she stepped out of the shower. It was working fine and never came off. I then bought 2 more for her other shower. Yesterday as she was stepping out of the other shower, she lost her balance and the handle she was holding on to came off of the shower wall. She went down and said it came off the wall. It still had green lock on meaning the suction was good. The wall was wet so the only thing I can figure is that she was putting more weight on than she should have and between her weight (130 lbs) and the wetness, it lost suction. My return date ran out 4 days ago, so now I am ordering metal wall bars and trying those. The reason I didn’t before is the wall is further away and she’ll have to stretch to reach it. Don’t trust it if the person has any balance issues, it’s not meant to hold weight and it won’t stop a fall as it’s stated.

This is the 2nd time I bought this product having liked it so much the first time. Now I have for each bath / shower in my 2 Bathrooms. It works as intended, holds in place. Not intended to lift you up from a sitting position but it's perfect if you slip or don't want to slip by holding on to it. You can move to a different location in the shower or bath tile area as needed. Very pleased wit this purchase and much cheaper than having a permanent safety bar added since you need to hire someone with a special drill bit to install so it won't crack or break you tile.

I feel very safe using this handbar to get in and out of the bathtub. The suction has lasted ever since I first hung it. I just make sure and keep an eye on the red/green coloured dots before I use it every time. It is extremely secure. I’ve had others that stopped working after a short time. Would recommend.
