A kettle with the WOW factor!
This is a smart looking and a quiet kettle. I really like the temperature indicator, a red light shows when it heats up to 40C, 60C, 80C and 100C. Heating a kettle to fill a hot water bottle used to be a bit hit & miss with my cheap old kettle but with this Duronic Electric Kettle EK42, I can heat it to 80C accurately. At 100C I can hear & see the water boiling in the water level window so I switch it off - WELL before the auto shut-off..........to save money on the electric and prevent the kitchen steaming up. I like the handle, this kettle is comfortable to hold and not too heavy when filled with water. I don't like the long delay before the kettle auto shut-off happens. I don't like the water level window, it's VERY poor. I find it very difficult to see the water. I have to move (jiggle) the kettle to make the water move and then the water level is visible. I don't like the hinged lid. I find it difficult to open. Despite all my negative comments, I do like this kettle and for me it has the WOW factor.

Good kettle overall
Really like this kettle, not overly heavy. Boils quickly and the keep warm option can be useful. Also pours from boiling without any ‘spiting. Just have a problem with the filter. It feel out in the first few uses and is impossible to get back in which isn’t so good

Impressive until seven months in
I've raved about this kettle for seven months. Looks good, lid no less dizzy than most supermarket kettles. Temperature made a tea, coffee or chocolate a sensational improvement to a traditional kettle. Saved time and made me feel that I was conserving energy. Incidentally, the secret to excellent taste, ( if you have any mineral content at all in supply, even slight scaling ), is to always boil the full contents of the kettle (100degC) once. Use the lower temps for reheating, then the phosphates and other minerals don't create scum or leave aftertaste. They either boil off or they balance better as a result of the first proper boil. This fact does work against why you bought a temp controlled kettle but I'm convinced it is the only way forward with such appliances. Problem cropped up this morning where it would always boil when placed on the stand before pressing anything. No water ingress into buttons (well, not from tap, perhaps some from steam condensation but that wouldn't be operator error). Sometimes the internal click/relay happens so you can override it when you are just placing the kettle back. I've ordered a different brand and as is the nature of selling on Amazon. Buyer beware that you probably need insurance with a Duronic if your ~£35 is as hard earned as it is for most of us. I went to get support and it is a fob-off page that you get that doesn't link to this order or integrate with Amazon. Sure you might be contacted back. Thankfully, entering into a conversation with Amazon directly, works marvels if your case is the similar to mine. Amazon are coming to collect this short lived article. THANK-YOU ! As far as I know, credit card purchase electrical/electronic goods still come with 2yr warranty even after leaving the EU fortress. Any electrical purchase is certainly good for 12 months and probably there is an expectation from the UK consumer protection for goodwill even beyond 2yrs even for this class of appliance. A kettle and temperature setting is a fairly simply thing, even if it had a keep-to-temp setting, the electronics can be super controlled by a fancy circuit with high power control but really, it could also be done with invar-brass and an engaging lever (for both the temp and whether it maintains the temp, the latter feature I actually didn't want and wouldn't risk without boil-dry protection, which the kettle doesn't have). Cost of manufacture has semiconductor doing the job of two strips of metal more effectively, which does seem strange to those who remember simpler times. Loved the kettle until it died. My previous kettle was a ball design £13 Tesco rapid boil kettle and that, even with some button wear and scaling, is still working better than this £35 upgrade from late 2020. But I've had pleasant tasting hot drinks from the Duronic until it went to rats. Duronic, if you can't make a reliable panel then either stick to on/off switches without this level of control or improve your design. I would have willingly paid £5-£10 for a snap-in replacement module to save this whole kettle going to landfill/scrapmerchant. Although any such modules should be versioned as you learn how to make decent electronics that'll last and ensure maximum safety. Thanks Amazon, for the chance to give a review. The old adage that we should buy from Amazon where there are thousands of 4/5* reviews and less than 0.01% negative low star ratings, rings true.

Great kettle
Took a risk and went for a referb as it said it still came straight from manufacturer & was £20 cheaper. I was chuffed to bit when it arived with not a thing wrong with it, looked brand new so I think it was an unwanted item return. The lid open has a knack as my daughter can never get it to open but if you press the depression with slight pressure towards the back not straight down it works every time....unless your my daughter who still keeps pressing it straight down! I like the different temps, water level is east to see & it's nicely weighted so easy to carry & pour. Most of the time I use it for a single cup of tea so fill it to min. & boils really quick.

Best kettle ever. But faulty after four months.
As an avid tea drinker I was looking for a multi-temperature kettle. At first this exceeded my expectations. The capacity was ideal, the weight just right, the handle was comfortable, and I used a wider range of temperature settings than expected. The boil was quick and quiet, and the beep to tell you the kettle was ready was both useful and unobtrusive. Completely brilliant. The lid didn't always open, but I knew that from previous reviews and had no trouble filling it through the spout. However After about four months the 'on' switch became temperamental and ultimately failed to function. I reckon it is switched on roughly 5-6 times a day, which doesn't seem excessive (its January so have been making hot water bottles as well as individual hot drinks). This is a massive disappointment as it really is the best kettle I have had. Previous reviews suggest that customer service is good and there is no problem getting a replacement, so that is what I have asked for. But the reviews also suggest I am not the first person this has happened to. I am reluctant to say 'dont buy this kettle' because it really is super. When it works. I am prepared to go for a replacement because I hope the next one will last longer. Other people might prefer to avoid the hassle. I really hope the manufacturers fix whatever the issue is because it is otherwise a really good product.

Impressive!
I bought this on the name as I own a Duronic hand mixer and love it, so when my kettle failed thought I would look to see what else Duronic made. The kettle itself seems fairly sturdy, if a little lacking in finish. (plastic edges around the lid sit out a bit) Otherwise it boils faster than expected, isn't as noisy as some I've had and the temperature setting comes in useful. The handle of the kettle is a strong one and the water guage easy to read. The lid is a little different from others in that it is a two-way action, centre opens the kettle and the outer rim closes it, but it's not a problem. Unusually, the kettle bleeps when boiled and I've found that quite a useful addition. So far very good, especially in relation to the price and in comparison with much dearer models. The main concern is how long it will last, have to wait and see.

Worked For 8 months….
Kettle was purchased in late January 2021 and worked very well until today, 18th August 2021. No response from On button, kettle is completely dead except for a random lighting up of the keep warm button a few times. A few days short of 8 months. It was good while it lasted. The lid didn’t always pop up, but the temperature control was useful for making coffee. Like most modern MIC items, they’re not built to last. Shame. UPDATE: There is a 12 month guarantee on this kettle. Contacted the seller and they offered to repair or replace (faulty kettle picked up by courier). Sent the kettle and didn’t hear from them for several weeks. Asked them for update and they apologised and sent a new kettle within two working days. The replacement one is working perfectly and hopefully I’ll get another 8 months out of this one. UPDATE (again): The replacement for the original kettle stopped working yesterday 11th May 2022, so about 8 months of use just like the first one. I definitely won’t be getting another and the guarantee period is over, so no point contacting seller. What do you have to do nowadays to find a decent kettle?!

Great for drinking warm water in winter (easily & quickly) in addition to the usual boiling water!
Most important feature for us (which most competitors lack) was a temperature setting of 40 C and 60 C (most competitors start at 70 C). This means in these cold winter months rather than drinking cold tap/filtered water, one can have pleasant mildly warm water at 40 C. Or just hot enough at 60 C to kill those germs in your throat and help you recover faster from cold and throat pains. Generally well made and looks good as well.
