Worth having
The original "It" (not the TV niniseries) is better that the sequel. Both are good, scary-ish movies & were major hits when they came out. From the standpoint of major hits of the period, the double set is worth a collector having @ the twofer price.

They say pennywise the dancing clown, but there is no dance battle?
You may be thinking: "oh not another scary movie about clowns oh boy", you would be incorrect. These movies capture the true essence of the original book. This idea of " where does child like wonder and imagination end? And does it have to end?". Yes, while the cgi tends to take you out of the film in some cases, it doesn't take away from the intensity of emotion and amazing acting/directing/cinematography.Now those who have seen the 1990s mini series or even READ the book ( what a crazy idea that is, reading. However to those who haven't read "It" I wouldn't recommend it) these movies do carry the story differently. Yes, while you may not have the strange montages of the 1990s or the general feverish dream that was the book you still get these main themes and motifs that are strung throughout both. In my humble opinion, these movies are better than the mini series. If anything these movies do the story more justice than the book, but that is a different road to go down. The additive documentary and other specials are so amazing. The background into making this movie, even the included interviews with Stephen King himself on how he wrote the book- ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING!In all these movies are a must see, and most definitely one of the most interesting psych analysis horror movies you can watch.

Adding More Punch And Detail To A Stephen King classic
Yes, I did like the original 1990 movie based on Mr. King's well-written novel. However, like most novels converted to movies, condensing the plot from a 1138 page book to a movie running 3 hours and 17 minutes left a lot of the detail and backstory out. This new bundle of chapters 1 and 2 run for a whopping 5 hours and 5 minutes. That gives a lot more time for plot and character development as well as motivations and action. This new interpretation, while staying true to the book, adds a lot of attention grabbing scenes that will surprise and shock many viewers. Yes, the soundtrack is relatively sublime and remains in the background as it should, but it contributes to the mood nonetheless. That is how a good soundtrack is supposed to be utilized. However being hard of hearing I had some difficulty tracking the changing voices of the characters since most conversations were rather quiet and then followed by the sounds of escalating action. So I was a bit disappointed in those transitions. The scenery and cinematography are both great, painting vivid colors when needed and yet returning to the muted background when major action is not taking place. The other difficulty was in the editing process. A few times I noticed where filming action might have broken off temporarily and then reshot later with a few different details present. Once I even saw a shadow figure in the hallway which wasn't germane to the scene. However most of the film was "tight and right" and easy to follow.Don't let my minor quibbles put you off if you're a serious Stephen King fan. This interpretation brings a lot to the table and will keep you riveted to the screen -- and to your seat. My wife had to turn her head a few times because of her anticipation of what was going to happen next. I happily enjoyed the whole presentation and can recommend it without reservation. As an aside, the unknown child actors really delivered!
