Milady Standard Cosmetology 2012

I went to beauty school in the 1980s and this book is a far cry from the dry sparsely illustrated text that we had back then.Just one simple example: In my old cosmo book it said that our hair cutting shears were NOT shears, but scissors and that it was "incorrect" to call them shears. Well, that may *technically* be true, but out in the beauty world they are simply called "shears". I noticed that this new Milady book does not bother with information that is clearly irrelevant to the industry. I mean, how would it sound if you went around telling everyone that their shears were not in fact shears but scissors? Nonsense.It goes into detail with cutting and other techniques, the photos and explanations are excellent. I am studying to retake my state board exam (I passed it way back when and I recently allowed my license to lapse) and this book will be very helpful. There are some changes since I was in beauty school, but I am confident that this book will help me to acquire the knowledge I need to pass my state board exam again.

I finished cosmetology in 2003 and did not get to keep my book so I ordered this one to have as a refresher and professional reference. Man is it great!!! Very vivid, more detailed info, and it captures every learner. There are bold color pages with step by step illustrations and very to the point instructions. It also has a timeline of cosmetology and focuses a little more on being a productive businessman/businesswoman. Really glad I made the purchase!!!!

This book is not a how to book. It is a supplement for cosmetology school. That being said, I am not a cosmetology student, nor do I plan to be. I love experimenting with color, cutting my own hair, and facial treatments. What this book does for the noncosmetology is help you understand the rationale behind what beauticians do and understand color concepts. If you are looking for a how to book than this is not it. If you want a book to teach the why of cosmetology than this is a great reference.

I've been reading a little everyday since having received this book. It's a very easy read as in it's easy to understand because they break everything down to its simplest form. This makes it difficult to take notes because you feel as though you have to write everything down to get something from it later, but of course that feels pointless since you already have the book. In the end, I think this book will do well to prepare me for the CBE Exam and put me steps closer to being licensed! I will keep you posted!

Twice is the charm. The book itself is wonderful however, I had such a hard time receiving it and still have not been refunded for the book I never received. I ordered this book next day, Saturday delivery, and it never showed up. I called Amazon and they promptly refunded the shipping charge (I am a prime customer also). However, after 3 more days, the book still did not show up and I had to reorder the book, which was shipped free of charge overnight, wonderful! Right? Well yes, it is wonderful, however, I still have never received the first book and was charged for it and the actual book was never refunded to me as Amazon is waiting for me to return it...but I never got it. Not sure what to do but it is not cheap and will attempt to solve it again tomorrow.

The New Edition of the milady Textbook is AWESOME!! It's come along way since I was first in School in 1991!! I love the left handed proceedures that they added, I had a real hard time trying to teach a left handed person and the new addition to this textbook realy helpeed! Great Procedure Pictures! I suggest every school to upddate to this Edition.
