Strong enough for almost any job
I mounted this in the car port to dry cloths while it is raining outside, works like a champ. It was very easy to install and strong enough to hold several loads of cloths and bedding. I would recommend to anyone who is in need of or just wants to save money drying clothes.

UPDATED: Nice to have once you get used to it
UPDATE: I added a couple of stars now that I've had the clothesline in use for a few weeks. All of the original review (below) still applies, but I like the functionality. I wanted a clothesline that I could retract after each use--NOT seasonally. It's kind of a hassle to extend it 15 feet, and walk back 15 feet to turn the locking knob before hanging clothes. Then, when laundry is dry and down, it's the same hassle in reverse. For me, being able to make clotheslines more or less disappear between uses is worth it, so Four Stars it is. The build quality on this retractable clothesline seems decent, although I'm leery of the plastic keyhole mounting brackets that the whole washload is going to depend on. The instructions are some of the worst I've seen. I'm a pretty handy homeowner, but the tiny, blurred drawings, small white-on-black font, and tri-lingual text were inadequate. I fumbled around more than you'd think possible on a simple installation involving only 4 bolts. It's impossible to mark pilot holes directly through the mounting brackets, so you have to measure a LOT. One-eighth inch off, and you will not be able to hang the unit. Trust me: four wrong holes in the siding of my house now attest to this difficulty. Note the measurements before buying: this thing is huge. The main unit (where the clotheslines roll up) needs a minimum of 34 horizontal inches of wall or surface to mount, PLUS a few inches of clearance beyond that, left and right, to operate the tighten and release knobs. The metal receiving bracket (the bit that goes on the far wall to hold the extended clotheslines in place) doesn't actually accept the bar when bolted flush to its surface--there isn't enough room and you will have to improvise. Note that for anyone much under six feet tall (I'm 5'10") all of this will be happening while you're on a ladder. Adjustments to the tautness of the individual lines are so cryptic and hard to reach that I haven't succeeded yet. It's up, I've got a few clothes hanging on it, and it's not awful, but the difficult installation and adjustment process has been a real star-subtracter.

A good buy
This is a heavy duty retractable line dryer! While I balked at the price, it is a good buy. Perfect for the space, easy to install, and good for several rounds of laundry! I've done all the bedding at the same time (sheets, comforters, throws, etc), and it has held up without issue. Definitely recommend.

Great clothesline
This is my third Sunline. The first lasted many years. The second only four, and this one...we shall see. I live in a harsh and brutal climate where the sun destroys all sorts of things. I think the heat is what caused my last one to lose the plastic coating on the the lines. They cracked, broke off and the fibers were exposed on the lines. One line broke. I got this on sale, it fit exactly like the old one so I didn't need to do any install, just hooked both ends. Some careful adjusting of the lines was required to take up the slack. This is important for even tension, and is done on the end that hooks into the bracket, not the housing. I can get four, sometimes five loads at a time to dry for free in the sun. Nothing smells better than fresh off the line sheets and towels! I have no idea how long this will last, but it's a great clothesline for the price.

Works great
I love to hang my clothes and linens in outside weather permitting but I can also put it away when not in use. I got this to replace one that was finally falling apart after 25 or more years. Has good recoil.

A terrific clothesline that's easy to set-up and takedown.
This is our 2nd 17145-1 Aluminum Retractable Clothesline. The first one lasted 25 years and was still going strong, except the plastic clotheslines were getting soiled-looking (we live in coastal Oregon and mildew is an issue in the winter). Installation is a breeze: two bolts at each end to mount the main unit and the receiver, then a simple procedure to equalize initial tension on each line, and you're done. Pull the head out of the main unit and latch it over the receiver, then turn the big knob on the main unit to tighten and lock the line tension, hang your clothes. When they're dry, take them down, release the lock button on the main unit, unhook the head from the receiver and wind the lines back into the main unit. You're done. Two minutes tops. Depending on where you install it (ours is on a covered rear deck) we suggest setting the mounting height two or three inches above the tallest family member. From the outside, the new unit appers to be identical to the old one, so we're hoping it'll go 25 years too :-). We highly recommend this product.
