Perfect bug-stacker
So much experience has been applied to StackShot. Since there are many parameters which can be set, the first stacking experience can be confusing, but with some time, the logic becomes clear. The unit works wonderfully and takes the tedious work out of focus stacking. There is a lot of support information available on the web site. I bought the extended rail option, and am very glad I did - not because I'll be stacking large objects, but for the working room it allows when you're setting the start and end points of the stack, as well as just finding the subject in a tiny MPe-65 field of view at 4x or 5x. A few evenings spent on [...]t (both the "equipment" and "technique" blog sections) will help diffuse pre-purchase jitters, and post-purchase confusion. Although there is only a little written on this topic, beware of rapid flash firing and the danger of heating up your flash unit. StackShot's "T-settle" parameter is very useful to allow cooling and recharging the flash tube. I love those tiny beetle faces!

Looks like a solid product from Cognisys that looks to offer some huge benefits for the smaller subjects we shoot. However, despite owning the patent, they still hold this product at a maximum ransom price of $625 US retail and choose to sting you further for automatic set-up but an exorbitant price on a shutter cable ($45) as well as full price shipping ($70-$130 US+ to most countries) with only dealers residing in both Europe and South Africa. If they don't make it more available to other major brand camera specialist retailers around the globe, their product will struggle to reach macro specialists that aren't constantly googling for more advanced equipment. Judging by the items potential profit margin; Cognisys would be doing themselves a favour by including the shutter cable for $0 and offering free shipping over $500...I'd then consider buying it! Until then, there's manual options out there at literally a FRACTION of the cost, which turns off most. Mamking it MORE available, maintaining a profit and including shutter cables and shipping is going to get your name out there, Cognisys. Use your heads.I'd wager this explains why only TWO reviews exists on this product from Amazon...

Expensive, but it works. I use it with a Camranger, which makes it even better. It gives me complete control of the camera and the Stackshot from my Kindle fire tablet. It is well worth getting the extra long rails; I bought the 20 cm version. It gives a lot more flexibility for getting the camera in the right place when you are using a fixed reproduction ratio.
