Q: does the key code work w/out it steam will not install or play

This game key code doesn't work it comes up that the code has been used before and the code won't work this isn't the only game that I've order from Amazon that the key code won't work they either been used before or they don't have the key code with the game and I'm getting pretty up set about amazon I thought they were to be really good with there games all the games should be check out before they are sent out but I guest not.The games all are pc games and they are Half Life 2 Episode 2 Orange Box- Half-Life 2 episode one-Battlefield 3 Premium Edition the half life 2 episode two-and the battlefield 3 premium edition the key codes won't work because they have been used before and the half-life 2 episode one it didn't even have a key code with it so with that one I'll have to pay fore a code so that I can even play it so there's three games that I can't play so that's why I'm up set

Given that it will require you instill steam to install this game, it will likely update the game once installed. I think it should have no problem with Windows 8, but I don't speak from personal experience

The activation code will definitely work, assuming it isn't used.The disc will NOT work, but this doesn't actually matter because you can download the games through Steam once activated.Even if the disc worked you would still have to download all the updates released since 2007 before the games will even run, so unfortunately lengthy downloading is unavoidable.

The disc contains ONLY Steam client. No game. No extras. Nothing. And since this game is pretty old, the disc contains a pretty old Steam client. Currently (Jan 29, 2015) the Orange box on steampowered "dot" com is listed at $19.99, so it's cheaper to buy the box from amazon ($16.03 as of Jan 29, 2015). But at times the price on steam goes down to about $5 for all games (for example currently Portal is $2.49, but it was sometime for $0.00). If you're not in a hurry, then just wait for a good deal.
