Although he enjoyed helping daddy put them together
These toys are not meant for any play time - the plastic connectors have broken in multiple places on multiple different Bots. Although he enjoyed helping daddy put them together, we had a very sad 5 year old after Christmas because these broke with very little play and movement.

Most basic of construct-bots
I bought it because of the add on price and just to add to my collection. It is a basic set so don't expect to be blown away but he's well worth the price.

More of a model kit than a playable toy.
I got this for under 5 bux. I could not resist the price. I bought to have snap models to build with my son (3 years old). Yes the toys transform and yes parts are interchangeable with other construct bots, but once you start swapping parts, they get loose and break. My son, played with his so much, the figure has a problem standing on it's own, parts got really really loose. A lot of the parts C clamp onto other parts, and the C clamp part breaks. But they are really affordable model kits, and that is what I pretty much go into expecting. Model kits are not the most durable toys, so if you have that in mind, these are excellent values. My son owns 8 of these models. Minus Predaking (stupid transformation method, basically get the robot to bend over and use his hands as front paw), they all transform and build the exact same way (tuck head under chest piece, rotate at hips 180 degrees and fold legs and arms). The only difference being the extra parts you get to decorate the models. Due to the fact that they all transform the same (haven't tried the age of extinction line), I would never pay full retail. I prefer the airplanes over the vehicles. The Vehicles have a hard time rolling if you follow the instructions exactly. You cannot snap the wheels on and then expect the wheels to roll, too much friction. So I basically place the wheels in their correct spot without snapping them in, then the toys roll fine.

Construct your own Transformer
As a big fan of transformers and construction toys (LEGO, Mega blocks, etc.), this is a great combination of both. I am very impressed with the engineering of this toy. All parts fit together well and the joints are nice and tight. Once you build the robot, you can transform it to vehicle mode without removing/adding any parts. It is a full functioning transformers toy! I am excited to pick-up other sets and start customizing these 'bots. This is one of the smaller sets and a good way to check-out this new line from Hasbro. I've purchased the Starscream and Bumblebee set as well. If you would like really customize your bot, it may behoove you to purchase one of the larger sets with more pieces to customize. I've had some fun swapping parts around to make my custom transformer. Very cool. Here is a link to a board that shows different combinations people have created thus far: [...] Enjoy

Construct-Bot have poor-quality joints - they break
My four-year old son, who's a big Transformers fan, received 4 different Construct-Bot figures for Christmas (2013). And they were pretty cool at first because (1) they are of a good size, easily taller than Voyager class Transformer toys, (2) have good articulation in their joints for posing, and (3) initially looked durable. ...Except that #3 is not true. In 3 of the 4 Construct-Bot figures he has, Megatron now has a broken right arm, Hound has a broken ankle, and Starscream has a busted knee. Because every Construct-Bot transforms the same way, they all have identical skeletons, so they all have the same identical weaknesses--namely, that their joint designs are weak. To be clear, my son doesn't destroy his toys, since none of his other dozen "regular" Transformer toys are broken in any way, and he plays with all of them the say way.

fun but my 4-yr old broke it
Lots of fun! Easy to put together, a little less easy to convert from car to robot. My husband thought it was constructed really well, but then when my four year old son tried to take it apart and put it back together, he couldn't really control his strength and was probably pulling in an awkward direction. So he ended up breaking several of the little knobs that extend from the body, that you connect the limbs to. I guess this toy is best for slightly older kids.
