Fantastic product, Turtle loves it, works on a 20g tank too
Absolutely LOVE this product... would give it 6 stars if I could. No matter your current setup, no matter the size of your aquarium, this product will add 30% to 50% more swimming room for your turtle(s), because everyone else I know uses some sort of floating turtle dock that forces you to only partially fill whatever tank you have (plus some docks take up a lot of swim roon on their own account), while this product allows you to fill your aquarium nearly to the top (its actually kinda required because of the entry ramp). We have a 6 year old Yellow Bellied Slider of healthy size and our turtle has been thrilled ever since we added this to his 20-gallon aquarium (yeah, smaller then we'd like, but its much better now with this topper). He has a LOT more swimming room now then he had before because of the previous dock... well, basically the entire aquarium is free to swim in now... he LOVES the underwater platform, and has no problems climbing in or out of the basking area, which he loves because he can get totally 100% dry and bask in the warm lights all he wants now (and he goes back and forth a lot). I know most turtle owners have a 55 gallon tank which this is ideal for, but as a smaller tank owner (standard 25L x 14W x 18T), this is pretty much the only way you can pull off a smaller tank and not feel guilty about it. As the topper is about 17" long, a 20g tank owner will have about 8" left of space to work with... which for me was enough room to put a large filter and an aquarium light across the width of the tank (with the help of a stretched out wire coat hanger as added safety/support)... my turtle can actually use all 20g of the tank now for swimming, which probably puts him on par with a 40-50 gallon tank owner who's aquarium is only half-filled to support a standard floating dock. If there's a single negative to this product, its that no matter the size of your tank, you'll have to deal with whatever the 17" long topper itself doesn't cover, because the nature of the topper means you have to keep the aquarium filled near to the top. If you have a turtle with any hint of ninja escaping abilities, you're pretty much on your own on figuring out a way to cover the remaining space, as no off-the-store-shelf product will cover such an odd amount of leftover space. I was lucky that my filter and aquarium light nicely covered the remaining free space in my 20g tank.

World’s greatest aquatic pet turtle product!!!
Finally, a company that has made the world’s greatest aquatic pet turtle product!!! It shows how scientifically advanced we have become, only you have to supply the lamp. My turtles were at first shy of it, but it only took a matter of minutes and less than a day for them to start taking turns climbing up into the enclosed platform to bask. The clear top is movable with ridges to clamp several lamps, from both sides, and a metal grid door on top that can open if you need to insert food, etc. into it. Everything is made super easy. I have five mapping turtles. The size is great for them and the topper fits on my 37 gallons, near perfectly. Make sure you measure the size before purchasing. The only natural setback is that the turtles can get spooked from the clear plastic and hop quickly back into the water. I suggest covering the clear plastic with plants or other décor to provide them with a more hidden environment and hence they are less likely to get spooked, but also less visible when they are in there. Overall, it is a great product for aquatic turtles!!!

My Red Eared Slider LOVES this!
My favorite Turt in the world Jade lovessss this thing more than she does me! She hangs out on it ALL DAY. She sleeps on it every night. She uses it to escape her New World cichlids sisters when they follow her and expect her out of curiosity too much when she swims 😂. This thing is so sturdy along with the top she’s 3 years old and 5 1/2 inches & it’s safe enough to hold her up while she climbs up feeling curious herself and watches me. & it doesn’t move all I hear are her scratches while she peeks her head up and even then no scratches! She scratches being curious sometimes tryna see what’s going on outside of her world and this thing is so durable. I’m upgrading her to a new 90 gallon tank soon when I finally move into my house and out of this apartment definitely will have to get her a custom made Basking area. She will truly miss this and i hope she doesn’t go on strike or get angry with me. I know she loves it so very much. For the people being scared to fill up their tank FILL IT UP!!! trust me these sliders and diamondback terrapins love to swim! It’s their life along with getting daily tans. Trust me u will see a change in personality and mood when your turtles are truly happy. As to those with any manufacturer issues your problem not having a easy setup or set up wrong and haven’t discovered it yet. As anyone would putting together something new, just TAKE YOUR TIME. Breathe, don’t get frustrated really take your time read the instructions, look at the pictures in the manual, watch the YouTube videos on how to install the Penn Plex Turtle Topper. It’s really simple. I had a hard time too at first . Take your time because of course with mishandling anything can break. & u don’t want that. So take it easy on yourself. Enjoy putting it together for your pet. And enjoy watching them love what u fought so hard to put together for them. Shipping came during the beginning of COVID-19 in NYC so I had to wait but it wasn’t a ridiculous wait. It came as expected in great condition, very well packed. Jade loves it, so thank you so much.

Great Concept
I love the idea, and with a little altering it actually works pretty good. The issue I have is the ramp. They can get up it, but The incline is way too extreme for the type/style of the texture used. For humans the "stairs type of texture" works amazing. But turtles don't work that way. They have an easier time climbing rock walls. No joke, I filled the tank to the top and I feel so bad watching them still struggle to get up. Adding a little makeshift mat will allow for their claws to grab hold of the ramp. That was my only issue to be honest. Great product, slack texture design. Very easy to put together and install. Clear top doesn't secure to the main structure but I'm really not worried about my turtles trying to pull an escape act. Still a decent product and would recommend, especially now that it's 15 bucks cheaper than what I got it for. Figures

Easily the best basking platform i've bought
it's expensive, but 100% worth the money. I love this thing. It's easy to clean, looks great, and holds heat and humidity. I'm not worried about my turtle escaping out of this, and he's tried. It's sturdy and fits on top of a 40 Gal breeder if you use the extension brackets. My turtle loves sleeping on the platform beneath it. I only wish the ramp was much longer and the section for the lamps was much larger. It will fit his UVB and heat, but not very well. So far the heat lamp has discolored the clear plastic, but not melted it, despite being very close to the edge. So far he has not tipped it over, but when he claws at the sides trying to climb them, the weight of his plastron falling has knocked off his lamps. I wish there was a way to keep them more secure, the "clamp" sections are useless and just collect dust.

LOVE THIS!!!
I was really excited about this purchase! It arrived on time and as expected. I opened it and there was a chip on the corner and the broken piece was inside... it really doesnt bother me though bc it's on the side facing the wall and the ledge of the tank covers it completely so you can't see it at all anyway. It seems very well made and good quality and it was larger than I expected (I have a very large turtle and she fits through the opening)... it also fits perfectly on the top of my tank. I just got this and set it up today and I've never seen my turtle swim so much, she just has so much more swimming space now! Also her lights turn off at 9:30 and she usually sleeps at the bottom of the tank all night but since I set this up, tonight she has been sleeping on the ledge all night (so that she is closer to the top when she wakes up for air... basically the ledge is her new bed which is super cute)! Lastly, my tank is just so much cleaner now that I got all the accessories and old basking area out, yay! Update: My tank stays so much cleaner and I can go so much longer between cleanings! My turtle loves sleeping on the ledge and hanging out there! She loves the basking topper and how it's a bit private in there! This is such a good price for such a well made product... the cheaply foam docks cost this much at pet stores!!!

Product itself is good but could use some tweaking
First one ordered was a disappointment. It's like buying it from a thrift store. No original box. All the pieces were thrown into an Amazon box. There was no manual or instructions and it was missing a side piece to keep the ramp in place. I would have made do with this unit if all the parts were there as it seems well made. Unfortunately, it was useless if I couldn't keep the ramp level. The replacement I received was the way it should have been the first time around with the manufacturer original box, a manual and everything neatly packaged inside. All parts were there. All parts seem sturdy and well made. It took some force to snap the ramp to the floor unit portion but once in I knew that it would stay in place. There are additional side supports for the ramp. My tank is a 29 gallon tank and the whole unit rested perfectly on top. I had a couple issues with this product and needed to make adjustments. The first was the ramp. It seemed to be hard for my red eared sliders to climb up on it. I have two of them (4 inch and 3 inch). As some others mentioned, the ramp may be too steep. It seemed that way in my case. I'm not sure if the water level had much impact on the ability for the turtles to climb. Also wondering if traction was an issue. I resolved my ramp issue by first extending it. I got the lid of those Hillshire Ham containers and cut it to size I wanted and then used hot glue gun to attach it. Then getting a shelf liner from 99 cent store. It's like the waffle, rubbery or foamy type and I guess waterproof. I just hot glue gunned the liner just above the side support of the ramp. After doing this my turtles are able to climb up nicely. My 4 inch one does it seamlessly. My 3 inch turtle seems to just wanna hang out on the ramp to bask. I don't know if it just wants to remain close to the water. My second issue is getting my basking lamp at the proper height. So the clamp attaches fine to the side on the cover but my lamp doesn't tilt down enough to get the right angle. So I went to Home Depot and bought an egg crate lighting panel /Louvre. One panel and I had plenty left over. I cut three pieces. Two for the bottom support and one for the top. I cut it wide enough to extend beyond the side supports. Used the hot glue gun again to attach all three pieces. It worked perfectly. There's plenty of room. I also added some of the shelf liner to the basking area. I wasn't sure if the plastic was getting too hot for my turtles as they weren't wanting to bask initially. So just to be sure I added the liner which doesn't seem to be affected by the heat. It is also soft so I thought my turtles would enjoy that better. Despite the hassle of getting a dud on the first go, I'm very satisfied after my modifications. It should last as long as my turtles do.

Best basking area available
This is the best basking area on the market right now. Dont get me wrong its not perfect, but it does the best job out there. I am using this for two fully grown Red Ear Slider Turtles (Ones Shell is about 8 inches long x 5 inches wide and the other is about 6 inches long x 4 inches wide) I have a standard 55 gallon tank that the topper sits on, and have a 8.5 inch dome lamp clamped on top to provide a basking area. First the negatives: - The main body is two parts that are not connected, it would be very heavy to push off, but in the first hour my turtles almost pushed it off. My fix for this was to just put a couple strips of duct tape to bind them together. Worked like a charm. Seems like it should be something they can fix in the next generation of toppers. - The ramp into the water is extremely high, only a few inches from the top of the tank. I was kinda worried that my turtles might get a head of steam and try and jump out, hasnt happened yet, but if they were smaller or more agile that might be a problem. - The ramp is fixed, not on a hinge. I figured it was on a hinge and floated on the level it needed to be, but it is actually at a fixed height. Maybe future version could incorporate a hinged floating ramp. - The way the body sit on the aquarium it has to be at the end of the tank. It sits weird unless you have the ramp facing inward and the body sitting on the edge of your tank. I figured it could sit anywhere on your tank. Now the positives: - My turtles just love it. Some people said it took a few days for them to go in and they had to be coaxed into going up and in. It to less than an hour for both of them to bask in the topper. They fit pretty tight, but they both can lay down in the body pretty comfortably. - Look really nice while adding free square footage. I like that you can view your turtles inside. I know they need a bigger tank, but this adds a little more area for them to roam and have their space. - There is nothing else even close. This might not be the perfect topper, but it is the only thing that works. You can try rocks, logs and floating docks, but this is the absolute best thing on the market.
