Panasonic DMP-BDT360 3D Wi-Fi Blu-Ray Player

I've come to trust Panasonic for these kinds of products for a long time, as both my widescreen plasma TV, and multiple DVD/Blu-ray players before this one have been Panasonic. So far, I like this one too. Single most important feature (and oddly enough, something I didn't really see talked about much in any of the existing reviews or questions on the product): works with all our favorite streaming content services, including Amazon, Netflix, Vudu, Hulu and Pandora ... no more jumping back and forth between "compatible" players. We use cable for internet access, but I use a wired ethernet (LAN) connection for this player ... our router is WiFi capable, but I generally don't like or trust WiFi for this particular use ... too "glitchy." Second most important feature: this player has rear ports for LAN, HDMI and TOSLINK optical audio. While HDMI was intended to be a "one-cable solution" for video and audio, there are still a whole lot of people out there (like me), who simply refuse to junk all their old, perfectly functioning home stereo equipment so they can plug their shiny, new, whiz-bang Blu-ray player into it. For all you other "dinosaurs" out there, the TOSLINK optical audio signal can be converted back into standard RCA L/R audio with a very inexpensive powered adapter, and then fed into the inputs of any basic home stereo system. On starting up this player, you'll have to go into the "set up" menu and tinker with the audio settings, to make sure the audio port is turned on, and sending the right kind of signal from the port to your adapter. That took me a little extra time to figure out, but once I got those bugs worked out, everything was fantastic. My one, minor complaint about this unit is the reason I dinged it for one star. Like a few other reviewers I noted, I also experienced a "freeze" when trying to insert a Blu-ray disc while the unit was in "home" menu mode. It just locked up in a kind of gray mode, and became totally unresponsive. Even turning the power off and back on again did nothing. In order to get it working again, I had to physically disconnect the unit from AC power, wait a minute, and then plug it back in again. I can probably avoid future freezes by modifying my command sequences, disabling the "quick start" feature, etc., but we shouldn't have to surrender any functions, or unplug/re-plug the unit in order to unlock "freezes" that occur through what must be totally typical, and expected consumer uses of the product. Those kinds of glitches should be anticipated by Panasonic, and resolved through their design and firmware updates, shouldn't they? Listening, Panasonic? Despite this minor annoyance, I'm pleased with this device so far ... it's a vast improvement over the much older unit we were dealing with before.

I have been looking for some time for a bluray player that wasn't tiny and had a digital display panel of some sort. I hate that stereo and video components these days are getting so small, but on the other hand TV's are getting bigger...strange. These components do not need to be downsized, I like the substantial appearance of these devices. So when I found this bluray player I was pleased with its proportions. However it isn't very deep but I realized I would have to compromise a little. This is a great bluray player, and has lots of internet driven abilities from Netflix to Hulu to Youtube and our favorite Amazon Prime, simply awesome. The HD video is outstanding, though the player takes some time to boot up and get running it still is a great player.

I would have given another star if the first one sent to us worked. Friends I fear that you and I are now the quality control department for Panasonic. It used to be that Panasonic had a stellar reputation in quality and performance but no more. The loading tray of our first one- straight out of the box- would not open. It was seriously jammed and would cause the player to buzz and click trying to comply with the open tray command.The player would finally self turn off in defeat! Thanks to Amazon's great return policy sending the unit back was no problem and in 2 days we had our 2nd one which so far works! After this experience I don't think that this 2nd player will be reliable. The performance is mostly good but I am not happy about an add that pops up on our home screen for the discovery channel when powering up the unit. This will be our last Panasonic anything!!

OMG what a POS! Do yourself a favor and check the reviews for the black version of this player, especially the 1 stars. Those 1 stars are Very accurate and EXACTLY what I experienced. I just reread them last nite. We bought this Panasonic despite those bad reviews because we own an older one. Lesson learned. This silver one only has 3 reviews? 4 now with mine. Back it goes to Amazon thanks to their great return policy. We have a 2014 Panasonic BDT230 bought from Costco that has been perfectly fine. Don't understand the failure of this Panasonic. We played one blu ray, and after the credits it froze completely. Could not use either the box or the remote. Disconnected power, rebooted a couple of times and then with different outlets in the house before it finally let me open the drawer and get my "Goldfinger" blu ray out. Then, it went right back to frozen. I finally got it back on at the TV and the home screen was all garbled and distorted. Still readable somewhat, but I could not choose anything. I did do the firmware upgrade right out of the box, so that wasn't the issue. The "WAIT" message came on repeatedly too, and stayed on, never moving past that message. Very frustrating. I would steer clear of this player for sure. It simply is not good and a waste of time, energy and $$$. Frankly, I have no idea what to get as there are no really solid reviews for any here. Too many bad Sony's and Samsung's. Who makes a reasonable blu ray player besides the $1K Oppo? Update 1/4/17: Answered my own question. No one makes a better Blu Ray player than OPPO, so we bought the brand new model 203 for $549. Money well spent. The OPPO is light years ahead of anything out there; for 4K picture, for live sounding audio, and for high high quality materials/hardware. It's no lightweight paperweight tiny player. It's a solid component like the old days. Even has a marvel of a remote. Not only backlit, but as soon as you pick it up it's backlit. No more searching for the light button. If you can swing the expense this is the BEST Blu Ray player out there. I recommend an OPPO.

Works well for now, last one quit after 3 years to the day.

A few quirks, but overall a very good player. The picture quality is very good. Fast delivery too!
