Very easy to follow along and the information is very useful as well as current. The book really does a great job on explaining the concepts in the book

Terrific book. Used as a text in my class. I learned so much about the history of development of languages and the reasons why languages are so different. Well written. Should be a two semester book to allow deeper exploration of various subjects discussed.

This book deals with broad issues about the language. It is reasonable to understand because most of the ideas are supported by detailed examples and studies. This book is suitable for college students interested in languages and the field of linguistics.

Quite confusing when your first language is not English. Breaks down everything their is from pronunciation to vowel movements to produce specific sounds. This is a must have for Linguistic major and is not that hard to read but it is hard to understand and master.

The book targets large audiences, so it's very easy to read. It does not go into much detail about its topics, but it gives you a good starting point for your own research.

Great for learning some basics for linguistics

Este libro resultra bastante útil para los profesores ya que cuenta con una guía de estudios que incluye las respuestas de los ejercicios , flashcards, fugures y otros. Esta quinta edición viene bastante completa con un lenguaje bastante accesible para cualquiera a pesar del nivel de inglés. Básico en la biblioteca de un maestro de lenguas.

Ich musste dieses Buch für mein Studium anschaffen. Zuerst war ich doch sehr sekptisch, aber nun wollte ich dieses Buch nicht mehr missen. Gut verständlich, mit Beispielen untermauert und die Kapitel sind nicht allzu lang.
