Old reliable
Old reliable. Only burner I ever buy. Burns everything, reads everything. I like the bare drive, don't need any cables, no "free" software just the drive.

I'm glad you saved the 15 cents or whatever it would ...
I bought two of these drives with different bundles, saving one for a backup. The first one I installed had the data cable glue-gunned onto the drive. When I installed it I thought, "that's weird, but I guess that's just how it is". When installing other components the cable became detached from the drive. That's when I realized that the port on the drive that the cable is supposed to plug into was broken and that's why the cable was glue-gunned onto it. It was so precarious that it would disconnect if you brushed against the cable. I gave up trying to fix it and installed the other one I had on hand that luckily didn't have this problem. I don't know if it was LG(drive manufacturer), Produplicator(Co. listed on invoice), or Systor Systems, Inc.(Co. listed for feedback) who caused this problem, but whoever it was, I'm glad you saved the 15 cents or whatever it would have cost to replace the port and used glue instead, but I will never buy another product from these companies again.

and it installed quick and easy. The drive has it's own software for updating
Everything came as advertised, and the drive powered up and ran first shot. I was able to boot off the windows disk, and it installed quick and easy. The drive has it's own software for updating, but I removed it after a few times of it telling me everything was alright, even though it wasn't nessesary. Just install drivers and that is all you need. I can't say anything about the editing program that comes with it, since I haven't bothered, and probably wont. I just wanted a blueray and something reliable.

Not natively compatible with Windows 10 or 11
First, let me say that I have been using one of these drives since shortly after they came out in 2015. I love it. It is fast, relatively quiet, and has served me well. So when I was building a new computer, I thought it was a no-brainer to buy two more to install in the new machine. However try as I might, I could not get Windows 10 to recognize either drive. A quick search of online forums found numerous people with a similar issue, and a number of workarounds that didn't solve my issue. I contacted LG directly and, as you can see above, was told that my issue was a result of the drive not being supported by versions of Windows above Windows 8. I have since discovered that there are third party Windows drivers, and third party firmware updates for the LG WH16NS40 that can overcome this issue, but I was told bluntly by LG support that using these workarounds might damage the drives and would certainly void the warranty on the drives. Not wanting to deal with all this hassle for a device that should be plug-and-play, I return both of them. Generally speaking, this is a good, low cost internal blu-ray drive. However, prospective buyers should be aware that, depending on their system configuration, they may encounter issues getting it to work on computers running Windows 10 or Windows 11. If you are running one of these operating systems, I highly recommend going with a different internal blu-ray drive to avoid this possible hassle.

Great M Disc Blue Ray Burner with future technology.
This came exactly as pictured unlike some of the other reviews who had a flat emblem, etc. (Picture attached.) I decided to go with this drive against the other cheaper ones for two reasons. One reason was because it came with blue ray player - media software. This alone can range up to $40. Windows 10 does not come with any software and this kit takes care of that issue. The second reason was that this drive appears to be future proof to an extent. It has M Disk technology, 3d playback and has the ability to work with double layer, triple layer and quad BDXL discs. With 4k technology and everything moving to hd content, this is a big factor. My install was super easy using windows 10. Drivers were automatically installed once I turned on my pc and I used the drive itself to install the included Cyberlink Software. I have not bought into m disk technology just yet. I have cd roms I burned with data that are almost 10-15 years old and never had a cd, dvd or blue ray go bad / corrupt. Could they? I guess. But never heard of this happening or had that issue. (Only issues I may have had was a disc being physically damaged in error.) So as another review stated, if M Disk technology gives you peace of mind, go for it. Only thing left to this review is the long term function of the unit. Will report any issues I may experience.

This product is the best item to use to replace most outdated DVD writer components that are in the order of 5 years since being initially installed. Price is reasonable and the installation instructions are easy to understand and initiate.

I have been using LG drives for years with good success

This DVD burner installed beautifully and works like a charm. I haven't tried burning blue ray yet but, DVDs burn perfectly. This will not burn protected DVDs. I had to purchase DVD clone to do that, only for personal use, of course. I would recommend DVD clone ... works like a charm!

This drive is reading all disks very well. Operation is quite smooth with none of the struggle (whirring and clicking) that my external BD drive seems to have to read the same disks. It's obviously a quality build. Unfortunately I can't comment on large writes and their speeds and reliability as I have not used it for that yet.
