Works great for SATA m.2 drives
Works great with an old 128 gig SATA m.2 drive, the drive didn't work in my NVMe drive adapter

This is the M.2 SSD-USB board to get in my opinion
Summary: It just works as it should, with no frustrations. I needed this M.2 SSD holder to clone my laptop's 128GB drive to a larger SSD drive. The 1st USB board I purchased was unreliable and flaky and I gave up after 4 hrs (search for other reviews by me if you are curious which "recommended by Amazon" board you should AVOID). This one worked perfectly 1st time with zero issues. The retention hardware shipped with this board was easier to use. (Harder to find, it was buried in the bottom of the anti-static bag and almost missed it). You will need a small tip Phillips head screwdriver. I have several sets, and the replacement SSD and the hard case I purchased for future use for the old SSD both came with one. Recommended. 6/11/20 follow-up: I used it to make a backup image of another drive and move it to a separate offline storage. Worked smooth and fast.

Works well, kinda wide.
Works well, had to recover data from a broken laptop.. I had to use a USB extension cable since the board is wide where you plug in. I am happy with the board. Can't complain for the price!

Check your computer listing/specs before buying this
I opened up my one-year-old laptop (non-functioning due to a Win 10 safe mode issue from my not having set up a password a year earlier). I found the SSD. It had "Kingston" and a lot of numbers, etc, all over it, but no indication of SATA (or NVMe). So I went to the Kingston site. I saw SATA SSDs. I looked at the SSD to USB adapters on amazon. I found this one matched the M&B key pattern mine had. I ordered one. The adapter arrived physically broken. Amazon's exchange process worked smoothly. The replacement arrived intact a week later. I attached my SSD. Device not recognized. Some rounds of back and forth through the very limited questions feature in amazon. More time wasted. Device not recognized. Searching deeper online, I found out: (a) newer laptops like mine use NVMe SSDs, not SATA, and (b) it is not a simple matter to learn the type of SSD just by looking at the SSD itself. I now learn I could have looked at the specs in my laptop order (also in amazon). It states mine is an NVMe SSD. Given the number of negative reviews saying this adapter does not work, I think the image (image #2) that states "Please check the SSD before your order," should direct you to your computer specs' details if the SSD came from a computer. That would be better for everyone. I think most people interested in this device are looking to get their data off an SSD from a computer. Oh, another thing, one of the answers said this will not work in Chrome OS nor Windows XP, but that contradicts the listing description.

very nice product
My old laptop has died (some issues with the video card, Windows stopped loading. I would've tossed the laptop to the eWaste bin but it still had an SSD drive and a hard drive inside with private information. I opened the laptop and removed both the hard drive and the SSD. The hard drive has a SATA connector, so it is easy to use it as an external hard drive. The SSD has also SATA but a different kind. I did not want to throw the SSD away. After all, it is 256 GB capacity. That is why I purchased this adapter. It works perfectly for me and now I have a "portable" 256 GB USB flash drive. Just consider it is enclosure-less, so it could be easily damaged.

Runs my 1 TB M2 just fine
and while it has one single memory chip in an area where they coulda put 3 more , it fits the full length. I like that you can split it to fit. One thing I'm not too font of is the M2 drive ends up on the bottom instead of the top , so it'd only work best if you have a sideways usb port. Otherwise it's bottom heavy and puts straing on a vertical usb port. Was interesting that my M2 has 3 RED led's on it that nobody will ever see when it's inside the laptop. But hey it supports a 1 TB SSD. Mines an off brand called Neo Forza. Not much is known of them but they do have a website. As my HP is in for service. I removed all the drives as it had nothing to do with actual hard ware, just the laptop housing had issues. So for privacy issues I removed the drives. The mechanical had to be removed because it has several Pending sectors , and for now had to be reformatted in full to get rid of them. Overall I'm really please especially with the price

Adapter
I thought it was a good idea of getting this adapter with the little tools that go with it so I can put the hard drive in it. My problem is it’s very hard to unscrew screws to open it to get the hard drive into it so far that’s my only problem with it. I don’t know how it works until I get the hard drive into the case the adapter.
