Highly recommended for older engines
Very good oil. Highly recommended for older engines with flat tappet camshafts. Newer oils, including synthetic oils, do not contain the proper zinc additives, to protect the cam and lifters. It’s the only oil that I will use in older cars, such as my 67 Fairlane 500 convertible 289 and my 1979 Olds 98 convertible with a high compression 455 Rocket.

Flat tappet lifters are safe again
I have used this in a 1956 Oldsmobile with a 324 and about 100k miles. I have also used it in a 1961 Chrysler Newport with a 361 with about 120k miles. All original drivetrain configuration on both vehicles. This oil worked great in ensuring had sufficient zinc content for the flat tappet lifters. Have been using this for years to take the guess work out of trying to find the right additive mix or flat tappet sensitive oils. This product isn't really needed if you have roller lifters. There is research that shows once you have the engine fully worn in after 20k miles, zinc additive may not be necessary. I decided to err on the side of caution and use this oil anyway because of the higher zinc content and have never had an issue. Some use diesel Rotella oil and that seems to work as well. I'm interested in supporting any organization that tries to keep the classic vehicle hobby alive so I felt this was the better option. Adding a separate Zinc additive never has the same positive impact as a full formulation like with this oil. I've found it provides excellent cooling properties as well. Have bought a few bottles and will buy again.

Excellent Oil for Classic Cars!
I’ve been using Lucas Oil 10683 Hot Rod & Classic Car SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil in my classic car, and I couldn’t be more satisfied! This oil is specifically formulated for older engines, and you can really tell the difference in performance. It provides excellent lubrication and reduces engine wear, giving my car smoother operation and improved performance. The 5-quart size is perfect for my needs, and it’s easy to pour without any mess. I also love the added protection it offers for high-performance engines. If you’re a classic car owner, this oil is a must-have for keeping your engine running smoothly. Highly recommend!

A higher standard of engine break in o
Simply the best👍 This is ultra old school oil with heavy zinc additives for old style hydraulic flat tappet camshafts. Use new oil or synthetic you flat lobe the camshaft and destroy your Hot Rod. Go Lucas

GREAT high zinc oil - a MUST for older and flat-tappet engines!
Perfect oil for my old car! I have trusted Lucas for many, many years, so when I saw their Hot Rod & Classic Car SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil, I immediately purchased it. I just rebuilt the original 428 FE engine in my 1966 Ford Country Squire, a "survivor" that we just found and bought. It had been sitting for over 10 years and not run, so it got a full rebuild. I used a different "break-in" oil and immediately switched to this Lucas Hot Rod & Classic Car SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil to run since it has a higher zinc content, a must for older and flat tappet engines! I will be running this going forward and I always keep one 5-quart bottle on hand.
