de Gournay: Hand-Painted Interiors

This absolutely beautiful book provides detailed and gorgeous photos of the work of the de Gourney wallpaper firm. Photograph are high resolution with rich colors. The rooms pictured with the wall paper highlighted are enchanting. Calling this wallpaper “ wallpaper” , well, it’s way more than that, it’s fantastic hand painted works of art. Purely aspirational, the wallpaper is so expensive it is reserved for the one percent . However, that didn’t stop me from pouring over the book and throughly enjoying the design and artwork in each unique room. The author is the owner and genius behind the company. He describes the opening of China to western capitalism and how he created a thriving business by developing the company using talented Chinese artists. Unfortunately, Mr. Gurney, the de Gournay of the company, has a rather outdated, colonial, patronizing tone while writing about the Chinese. I found it distasteful and a bit tone deaf. The book is printed in Italy And well worth the price for any reader who wants to add to their collection of interior design books.

Such a beautiful coffee table book. I been following de Gournay's work for more than 5 years and I am so glad they have a book on their own to showcase their meticulous hand-painted Chinoiserie wallpapers. This is a perfect gift for anyone who has an appreciation for Chinoiserie art.

This is a beautiful book and perfect on my coffee table. I bought it on sale for about $45. I have seen selling on multiple sites for $75.

The book is excellent! I love the big format of the book, the quality and the choice of an interiors for the book. It is very relaxing and comforting just looking at the pictures but I am also very motivated to change my house interior now. A lot of good ideas from the book!
