Prepper's Natural Medicine: Life-Saving Herbs, Essential Oils and Natural Remedies for When There is No Doctor Review: No experience in this subject but this book is comprehensive & very prepper-oriented. Well worth it. - Honestly, this is the first book I've gotten on this subject. I wouldn't know if there's anything amiss or incorrect. Bearing that in mind, I'm looking at this from a prepper's perspective. I found it to be a well-laid-out, very inclusive, and pertinent to a no-doctor-available scenario. Practical info for infections, burns, broken bones, etc. A very nice list of herbs/ingredients with comprehensive info on what part of the plant to use, what effects it's for, uses, how to prepare it, dosing, and contraindications. All very very useful and easy to understand. Mind you, there are a lot of medical-ish words that are used that you aren't going to be able to avoid in a book on this subject, but all the definitions are in a glossary you can just flip to and check if needed. Extremely thoughtful and sensible. There's also an appendix at the back that's a chart of herbs/plants appropriate by symptom or use. So you can look it up that way. Also very thoughtful. The book is not huge, but imo is an excellent size, and is light, so would definitely be worth the space to pack if you needed to. All in all, very impressed with this book. Review: I will be recommending this book for years to come! It's excellent! - You don't want to go through a long-term emergency without this book. It teaches you the how's, what's and why's about creating a natural medicinal pantry. Cat holds nothing back in this book and uses a layered medical approach to assembling a natural medicine kit. Because she comes from a prepping background she uses a common sense approach to emphasize the vulnerabilities of solely storing western medicine supplies including how supplies will expire, run out and the ever-looming antibiotic resistance bacteria we may face in the near future.. The book is easy to read, written in a friendly manner and is packed with information. If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. From start to finish, I absolutely loved it! Cat is a wealth of knowledge and I will recommend this book for years to come.

Great book!
This book will be worth it's weight in gold! It's not a replacement for conventional medicine, but rather a way to treat common health issues and ailments in a society where conventional medicine is no longer an option (ex: post collapse society, etc.). Best to get started now, either growing or stocking, the herbs needed for most of the recipes. This book gives multiple different dosing methods for elderly, children, etc. Also has dosages for pregnant moms and obese patients, something I have not seen in any other books. I will be using this as a companion to Rosemary Gladstar's book on home remedies. If I had the money, I'd purchase this book for everyone in my family. If you can only get one book, get this one. It has a lot of the same stuff that Gladstar's books have, but with more details on certain things.

Don't let the SHTF without this book!
This book is the next best thing to having Cat Ellis sitting in your living room or better yet, helping you make some of the tinctures, extracts or salves with you in person. From start to finish this is written for a time you might not have access to conventional medicine but need it. That said, you will realize as you begin reading you will be gathering materials soon after reading. The only thing that would be better would be having every one of these salves, tinctures or extracts already made up in a corner cupboard ready to use. This book is written as though Cat Ellis is talking to you. She has done her research and not only has she covered ingredients, how-to instructions, when various things might be appropriate to use, she obviously knows human physiology and anatomy, the herbs she speaks about and their effects on the body. She has backed up her work with resources and studies, and is very specific about how to prepare nature's medicines for use safely. What I appreciate is the way Cat Ellis talks to you throughout the book. She draws from real life experience and hours of research and hard work. She also brings home the fact that this is not always a substitute for conventional medicine. Some things cannot be helped by herbal preparations and require immediate hospital care- if it's available. If not, this is a book I will be happy to have with me and hopefully I will be able to gather enough ingredients to start making my own 'Nature's First Aid Kit' right away. I won't be sorry. If I had to want anything more, I'd want a plastic cover for this book because it's going to get handled quite a bit.

Just OK
It includes a lot of herbs that I typically don't have. (I wish somebody would do a book on what we can collect locally and stuff that is more commonly available at stores.) It includes references to some ailments but not Lyme disease. I guess it will be somewhat useful but not the definitive reference I was hoping. (I believe it may cover stuff specifically for women but that is not my gender.)

Although I'm not a prepper, this is hands down one of the best books I've read on natural medicine and local plants... and I've read a lot! This is a treasure trove of valuable information about common (dandelion, plantain, garlic) and uncommon (sida, berberine, etc) medicinal plants. I started taking notes from the library copy, then realized it's better to just buy the book itself to use as reference. In addition to an alphabetical directory of plants and their uses, there are many other sections on specific health issues and situations that is useful to read about and also to have in an emergency (whether or not the world has ended!).
