A Wonderful Story of Adventure, Grit, and Life Lessons. - A must read for everyone. The Ultra Mindset, by Travis Macy is a wonderful book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and was disappointed when I got to the end. Travis Macy is a highly successful endurance athlete, and based upon reading of his other accomplishments, a very successful person, husband, father and business professional. I enjoyed reading of his harrowing adventures and extremely difficult challenges that he was able to navigate successfully through a combination of fitness, determination and mental toughness. I really liked the format of this book: Lessons learned from endurance event competitions that are applied to “regular” life and business. No matter your circumstances, the 8 principles articulated in The Ultra Mindset are practical and actionable solutions that can be applied to everyday life – a very real world orientation. In particular, “The 4:30 a.m. Rule” resonated with me. This is all about making a commitment, setting forth the tasks that need to be acted upon in order to fulfill the commitment and then getting it done. I believe this is a fundamental trait of every successful person – whether in personal life, business, athletic competition, or whatever. Clearly Mr. Macy has this ability, which he writes was instilled in him early on by his father, also an accomplished endurance athlete. Something all of us “normal” folks can take comfort from is the author’s admission of self-doubt that creeps in one’s mind at all the wrong times and how he used this as a motivator, not a reason to throw in the towel. How he was able to recognize the tendency to rationalize why quitting is a good thing. And then using this as a mantra to not quit, to persevere, to achieve. Mr. Macy put it best, he began to focus on the “why” not the “what” to get through to the next stage. A lesson for all of us. This is a wonderful story of adventure, grit, perseverance, mental toughness, and focus on achieving commitments. It is now required reading for all of my managers and employees. I hope there is a The Ultra Mindset Part II in the works. If so, I'm placing my order now.

Great Read! Motivating
Being an endurance athlete, I knew I had to pick up this book when my mom recommended it to me. John and Travis do a great job telling Trav's story and explaining how Trav developed the mental fortitude required to compete in some of the hardest races in the world. While most of the ideas aren't particularly new, Trav has a unique way of phrasing his mental training concepts that is new, refreshing, and engaging. I would definitely recommend this book to any endurance athlete!

which makes it easy to follow
The Ultra Mindset's more than just for running, but for life! I just interviewed Travis Macy for our Inspire Nation Show, and it's clear the mindset that's helped him become a champion ultra-runner can help us all in the game of life. He breaks down the book, and key concepts into 8 succinct mindsets or strategies, which makes it easy to follow, digest, and to implement. I love the 4:30 Rule, anything's possible when you don't have a choice! And #8 Never quit, except when you should! There's a lot of great advice in here, and I can't recommend it enough. Of course, being an ultra-endurance athlete myself, I LOVE the stories. They're inspiring and make me want to get moving, whether on the trails, my bike, or when it warms up again, paddling out on the water. You don't have to be an athlete to enjoy this book, but the stories are fun!!! Thank you Travis for an amazing book, one I'm sure will help people in business, in life, and on the trails!!! Woo Hoo!

Macy writes a lot about his adventures which is eye opening in itself. I have ear marked the pages where he has set challenges and exercises to try so I can come back to them once I have finished the book. I like there are some new ideas rather than just the same old same old advice others give.

For anyone wanting to get the very best from themselves. Travis has dedicated his life to doing just that and shares his mindset, stories and lessons. A great addition to my library of running/ endurance related books!

Ideally when reading you should be willing to pause and start on the exercises. Some of the exercises and notes are simple and should be effective in most people's lives

I thought it would be a book about ultrarunning, it’s not. It’s about adventure sporting events. I didn’t like it, nor is the author likeable. He comes over as very self loving. It took a lot of effort finishing the book.

Great stories from a legendary athlete. Each chapter has a essentially a psychological self improvement task and tips which are useful
