The peanut butter attracted hundreds of ants. Has anyone figured out how to use this outdoors without attracting ants?

There are two possible solutions. First is a granular ant repeller/ killer about 1 foot around the trap and ramps or a simple water moat about 6”. Mice can leap this and you still will get results. .

How sensitive are we talking? Cuz we have super tiny field mice and they dont even snap the old snap traps with the clasp filed down

I have had success with the smallest of mice with this item. Things you need to make sure of is that you do not over tighten it to the pail to a point where the cylinder rubs the pail and you need to keep the metal surface reasonably clean and smooth. I actually put a coat of wax on it. That done, make sure you have enough water and I use a fragrant peanut butter and it’s like magic.

The overall length is exactly 13 inches right ? is this adjustable ? Will it work in the typical 5 gal bucket.

Read the description: "all 5-gallon buckets have the same diameter". So, yes, it will fit.

Odd question… but how do you get rid of the rats? Dead or alive… green bin? What about the water in the bucket?

It's up for debate! Here's my answer, but don't tell the world!!! I use a 1"x2" board to stir the water to reveal any deaths. I do this daily. Then I put a plastic grocery bag in one hand and the board in the other. Using the board, I carefully bring the carcass to the surface of the water. With hand in the grocery bag, I grip a foot and remove the carcass and very quickly envelop the carcass in the bag and tie the bag shut. Then I march to my garage freezer and put the bag there until garbage pick-up day. On that day, I remove the collection of bags and place them in the green bin. Out of sight -- out of mind!!! That's my story, and I'm sticking with it! Regarding the water -- I have bushes nearby -- they can always use a drink!
