A good supplement to classroom and textbook resources
My kid's high school no longer issues take-home textbooks; the physical books stay in class, and students have access to an online version. It's pretty frustrating to use an online textbook for homework or studying, and classroom notes only go so far. This isn't as complete as a real textbook and doesn't cover things as comprehensively as a beginner might need, but it's a decent addendum to other learning resources. This book handled all 3 of my concerns: first, it gives my kid an opportunity to see chemistry concepts and problems explained in a different way than what he got in school; second, it's an easy-to use reference for homework; and last, it serves as a refresher for me (his reluctant tutor who learned Chemistry many years ago). I've used other "Dummies" books in the past, and found them all decent in covering their subjects, same for this edition.

If you are good at chemistry
I bought this for mu husband to test out of remedial chemistry in college. I took remedial chemistry because it was not my strongest subject and I did not have a thought to buy this book for myself! Time makes you wiser and I wish I had this to test out of it too! I looked it over when it arrived, page by page and it 100% takes care of EVERYTHING you need to know about introduction to chemistry. You don't need a background for this, it is designed for people who know little to nothing about chemistry. If you are good at chemistry, but need a refresher, I would not recommend this. Buy Chemistry Essentials for Dummies instead. I also have that book for myself and it is a 1/4 the size of this book and it hits the MAIN points quick to click off your light-bulb! Hope this helps!

You need MORE THAN THIS for College Chemistry.
Was recently taking general chemistry at college although I did read this book I found that a lot of the terminology I had read about was non essential. Chemistry as it turns out is a way of thought and not something that can be read like an article. I wish there would have been more emphasis on that. Maybe I’ll get the book with exercises instead, be sure to look for a COLLEGE chemistry guide so that you can be more prepared for a chemistry course. I dropped my class before I was officially enrolled because I knew I wasn’t ready.

I passed my chemistry class with the help of this and I would recommend it.
This came in handy for my college course but didn't have little things that I needed. I'm not much of reader but most of the concepts talked about in this book really made it simpler and easier to understand. I passed my chemistry class with the help of this and I would recommend it.

I took an online Chemistry 101 course with proctored exams. Honestly, if it weren't for this book I don't think I would have passed! The required textbook made simple concepts seem so much more complicated than they really were. This book is a MUST for chemistry students. Read this in combination with Mr. Causey videos on YouTube and you'll be golden!

Try a different suggestion
Didn't love it. Maybe that's because the other book I bought was so far superior. "A self teaching guide to Chemistry Concepts and Problems" --- Best Ever. It made me pass my college Chem placement test and I knew zero about chemistry prior. Get that one instead.

Book was torn and it's missing the first 11 pages and the next 25 pages are bound wrong. It's kind if a mess but I need it for school. Don't buy it as a gift! It's a mess

For the first time ever I understand Chemistry!
I am a mature student about to start an access course to Medicine and found this book extremely clear and helpful. The college had given me a chemistry booklet to prepare for the course but i was very confused reading it and felt panicked. However, john t moore uses humour and a very gradual increase of difficulty, slowly building on previously gained knowledge and understanding, so that i managed to stay on board and actually felt excited about chemistry for the first time ever!

Excellent Chemistry Book for self-study and further education!
I bought the Chemistry Essentials for Dummies by this same author first, and delved deeper with this book further. It’s an excellent chemistry book. I am self-studying Chemistry because I didn’t do well at my A-level. This book helps me understand the difficult Chemistry Concepts that I didn’t.

Chemistry is not as diffult as you believe
A very useful handbook. When I studied chemistry at the university many years ago, the formula was: "If you wanna pose a learned man, make things as complicated as you can". This books formula is quite the opposite. Thank you.
