golo Crochet Thread Yarns for Hand Knitting Gray Coffee 698

Lovely colors and quality, pleasant to work with.

So far I have been very delighted with the Golo threads. I use size 10 for doilies, etc. I love all the color choices & the price is not bad!💗 Interestingly, I have always used DMC's Cebelia, for decades. But the last several years I try to order from them & they are always "out of stock" on the majority of their colors. So I've been checking different ones here on Amazon. I do believe Golo is going to be my "go to" from now on. * I had begun a doily with DMC cebelia, had made 3 flowers, but couldn't get the colors I was looking for so ordered Golo. Surprisingly, even though the sizes are also size 10 & still using the same hook, the flowers were considerably smaller, so had to do away with the DMC flower I had made. **I only make this note so someone else doesn't have to remake an item. Thank you Golo for coming through with quality products & colors! 😄 B Mc

This is the highest quality cotton and finest spinning I have ever seen in cotton crochet thread, plus the colors are absolutely stunning, much better than the photos can show. The sheen on the surface is not something that is lost when the finished piece is washed and blocked, and is more than just the way the cotton was treated, but from the cotton itself. I have been crocheting with thread for many decades, exploring the many kinds manufactured and evaluating them for the pleasure of working with them and for how they perform in the finished piece. This is a cherished discovery. I have bought a supply of several colors for projects and cannot bring myself to store the yarn away until I begin the project. I look at it in different types of daylight and artificial light to admire the colors and have made swatches to try different stitches and brands /sizes of needles. It is an absolute dream that has brought new life to my needlework and made me fall in love with crochet all over again. I am sure I will end up buying many more colors and dreaming of many more projects. I started out with a single ball just as a trial. Go ahead and treat yourself to one as a sample.

Pros: Absolutely beautiful shine, very soft, wide range of colors Cons: - The colors I received were darker/richer than the colors in the photos: I wanted very icy, pale shades of blue and I received something more akin to a cheery robin's egg. Still lovely colors, but not what I expected I had ordered (Light Orchid 361 & Sky Blue 364). - This thread is definitely not a standard #10 crochet thread: it is thinner, closer to a #20. - Small spools: 250 yards. This is comparable to DMC Cebelia, but it feels tiny after using Aunt Lydias (350y).

I like the way the color changes from one to the next in a very hand-dyed fashion. It’s not an even change—it’s a bit splotchy, but I enjoy that. It might not be to everyone’s taste, though. This thread does seem finer than a size 10 crochet thread. I would agree with those who say it’s more like a perle thread. You don’t notice it at first, but you do when you work with it. It is limper, which would actually make it good for items like scarves. I am a little disappointed with one of the colors I got, D107. Although the label has the correct stock ID, the color I received has absolutely no blue in it. See my first two images for reference. (First image is my photo, the second is the seller’s). The next two images, Peacock Green, are the same item as well, except in mine the color begins with gold/maroon, whereas the seller’s photo begins with green. But mine does have green further down the thread, so I know it’s the same item. The last four images, D203 and Silver Pink, are just images of the item received plus that item in the seller’s photo. BTW, yes, these have 250 yards and Aunt Lydia’s has 300. That is 5/6 the length, and yes, at first glance Aunt Lydia’s looks a lot bigger, but let’s get real here: Aunt Lydia’s uses much bigger cardboard tubes! If Aunt Lydia’s used the same size interior cardboard tubes as golo did, its size difference wouldn’t be as dramatic. Apparently I need to explain this because visually the size difference raises questions in some people’s minds.

I needed it to make a pie crust. I can't use it for that, it's too metallic, almost a gold color. I'm gonna keep it bc I'll prob end up using it eventually but it's definitely not "khaki."

Smaller than claimed sized, not a size 10, distorts final appearance of project!
