Godzilla: King of the Monsters (4K Ultra HD)

I must admit, growing up with all the 80’s and 90’s Godzilla films (and later going back to the the earlier films) I wasn’t expecting to love this film, but I did! I saw it in the theater, and bought the Blu-ray when it released. This is such a fun monster movie I will continue to watch this every couple years so I picked up the 4K disc to benefit from its extra detail and HDR. This is a fantastic looking 4K disc, and my Atmos surround gets a workout and sounds amazing. With all of the action and flying and destruction, the surround (and overhead) speakers get a serious workout. If you have seen the film and enjoyed it, this is disc worthy of showing off your entertainment setup to your friends. If you haven’t seen the film and like old school Godzilla films, you get a bunch monsters and lots of action. A+

First of all, the movie is really good as far as the monsters are concerned. Lots of visceral action presented through astonishing effects. Nothing to complain there. The human part of the movie was, well, not so good. I seriously have to doubt the motivations of the "bad guys", especially the mom. That just didn't jive with me at all. From a technical standpoint, I am knocking one off my rating for the simple fact that my Xbox One X, which is the only 4k UHD player in my household, would not read the disc. It would make a few noises (as if moving the laser head back and forth and the motor spinning up then down). It was very obviously trying to identify what it was in the drive, but failed spectacularly. I almost resigned to the fact that I would either return the movie or just watch the standard Blu-Ray, which btw also contains the Dolby Atmos soundtrack. After researching the issue for over an hour, I found a thread that was discussing BD-100 discs being problematic on the XBox One X. Specifically, some of the Disney discs like The Last Jedi, which was I believe the topic of discussion. One desperate owner of the disc said he got the movie to work by inserting a different movie first, "Alien: Covenant", letting it get to the menu, then ejecting it and inserting the failing disc. I have to say, that trick worked for me as well for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters! Why? I cannot explain it! But the same trick allowed me to watch this movie. Needless to say, this is probably not an issue with the disc, although I can't tell because I don't know what other movies are in my growing library that are formatted in BD-100. And it shouldn't matter. So for now I blame it on both, the Xbox and the disc (hence only one star off). Hope this helps anybody running into the same issue.

Good quality visual and nice safety packaging

As of 2025 this still is the best monsterverse movie by farm It xane with two blurays: regular and 4k. Also, latinamerican spanish audio for my family.

Not sure why it didn't do as good as the others?? Maybe no name recognition? It did have Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobbi Jones and some other real cool characters like the guy w the glasses making wise cracks and I thought the story was good. Can't beat the monster action.

Es una película excelente al tratarse de Godzilla pero no sólo eso si no como se ve en 4K HDR y Dolby Atmos,Visión es espectacular lo que me parece es que es más trama humana que Godzilla Pero es magnífica la película 🎥 👌

Como fan de GODzilla esta película no me canso de verla, es una maravilla y en 4K se disfruta muchísimo más

4k disc played once. Only sound in dedicated Panasonic 4k player. Won't play in ps5 either.
