One of the best war films of its time, the tale follows a stranded group of six Allied soldiers, plus an Italian and a Nazi prisoner of war, as they trek across the desert in Bogart's tank in search of a legendary well at an abandoned fort. They find the fort, but the well's run dry, and a German battalion is headed their way. Review: One of Bogarts best - One of my favorite Bogart movies. A crime that you can only get it in DVD. A realistic, gritty story about an American tank and crew. Bogart does an outstanding job as an uncompromising leader of a tank cree in the Sahara, stuck and facing starvation. The brutal enviroment is almost as bad as the Germans they are fighting. Only on DVD in America. A few Bogie movies are already on 4k. All of them need to be Review: Old movie worth watching - B/w film old movie on dvd but good enough . Not expecting 4k but great movie .. can’t seem to find it on streaming except for utube and that sucked visually.

You can not go wrong here
Are you kidding? Great classic WWII film with Bogart! Filmed right after allies took over the North African campaign! No distracting love stories, all action!

Sahara (lessons to be learned) This classic is a good teacher.
Classic Bogey movie of a tank sergeant who helps British soldiers and an officer to escape what appears to be a losing scenario as they are all but surrounded in the deserts of Africa by the Axis powers. A lesson is learned in cooperation and team building as a kaleidoscope of nationalities learn about each others cultures along the way. American ingenuity and decision making under pressure makes a sergeant the elected leader even among officers. Should qualify for many top 100 favorites.

Alamein Again
This is an excellent WWII propaganda film set in the second push of Panzerarmee Africa towards Cairo -- the one stopped at Al Alamein. And then followed by the British pushing them all the way to Tunisia under Montgomery. But only indirectly. An American tank, part of a small detachment sent to the Western Desert to learn from experience and then come back and pass their knowledge on, is ordered to pull back and so moves out in the only direction the Germans are not known to be. Along the way they pick up some British soldiers with an Italian POW, a British African Sgt-Major, a French soldier and eventually a German Luftwaffe pilot POW. The Sgt-Major is a major asset, as he knows where the nearest wells (in the relevant direction are) -- and one of them turns out to still have water. This, of course, is vital to their survival -- and the plot. For they are not alone: a battalion of Germans is also looking for a well and they, too, have a guide. What happens next is, as might be expected, rather explosive. Two groups, at war with each other, one well.

Worth every minute!
I'd generally consider myself to be quite selective about movies I decide to watch, but I've seen this early, 1943 version of the movie "Sahara" now at least three times, the last two intentionally... it's that good! The direction, by a relatively unknown director (to me), Zoltan Korda, I consider to be just superlative. In addition, the withering desert setting, the 1940's period, the realism and pace of the story... based on a 1937 Russian film, "TheThirteen"..., the sharp dialogue, and really excellent acting all add up to account for this being one of my favorite WW II chronicles. I'd rate it right at the top of all movies I've enjoyed too. As evidence, I've recently bought "Sahara" as a birthday gift for my oldest, dear friend... he and I going back to about 1958! We're both WW II students of history and I'd definitely recommend this fine film to any fellow WW II movie buffs at the very least, if not anyone who enjoys memorable dramas. It's black and white cinematography is also memorably tight, sharp, and absorbing as well. I love movies from the 1940's anyway, but this one is truly one I consider worth every minute one spends caught up in its drama and action. Hereyee, hereyee!

One of the best war movies
My dad was a steady watcher of war movies and war documentaries for all my life. I finally watched this one when he was in a care center dying. I had never watched it the whole way through until I sat by his bed and watched it with him. It is a great movie. As he would say, "they don't make them like that anymore." It made me fall in love with war movies. I love the story, the acting is great and the old black and white format brings a charm that it so fitting. My 15 year old grandson initially balked at the black and white when we watched it as a family -- "this isn't going to be in black and white is it, grandma?!!" -- but quickly got over the lack and Technicolor and saw what a gem it is and is a big fan now. It's a family favorite now because it reminds us of my dad AND because it's a really good movie.

A Bogie classic. I've long awaited its arrival on blu ray. It looks beautiful on blu ray. But what a disappointment to find that you either watch it in French language or in English with subtitles. There is no option to watch this film in English with no subtitles. For that reason, I have to give it one star. I frequently buy imported editions and this is the first time I have ever experienced this issue. Very disappointing.

This is a product that's been produced for the Francophone market. As such, there's a version that's dubbed in French and the original English version has French subtitles. If you're wanting to brush up on your French, they're useful. Also included is a remake of the movie as a Western - with Indians (as opposed to Nazis) as the bad guys, and a non-Humphrey Bogart as the Sergeant. However, the plot is identical to "Sahara", with a lot of the writing the same, down to some of the same lines. We didn't bother watching that one to the end.
