This lightweight metal detector is ideal for those who are looking for a serious entry-level machine. Features include audible and visual indication of detection, 16.5cm waterproof search coil which enables you to search under water and a 3.5mm earphone socket. This detector is powered by two 9V batteries (not included) Review: IT CAME ,IT SEARCHED , IT FOUND. - For those of you who are doubters let me put your minds at rest, forget the oh its a rubbish bit of kit and very expensive, thats a load of shoe leather as I will tell you what I think of this Metal Detector. And I will Speak the TRUTH Warts and All. I am a member of a Field Archery Club, we do not stand on bowling green grass and fire arrows at BIG round targets then off to the Club house for Tea and Choccy Hob Nobs, our range consists of streams, small and big lakes, muddy trails about a yard wide, ish, mud, stinging nettles, mud, lots of crawling over and under trees, oh and mud,did I mention Horse Flies, midges, mozzies, asorted flying insects, brambles, rushes, and of course that old favourite Mud.Our targets are hand built from Penguins and Turkeys to 8 foot high Bears. So when we had lost a good few Arrows it was decided that what we needed was a Metal Detector and having read about this item about the same thing with another Archery Club I bought this one based on that write up. First day on the range and this was my first time using one of these Detectors,so off I went,5 seconds later PING PING,I thought no way, but there under 2inches of grass and earth was an arrow, and it was one of my own as well,I never realized I had miss counted when I picked them up last time there,so that was the start, when I had finished that area I had five arrows found and went on the range target area`s now after getting some funny blips and finding no arrows I dug down at least two inches of earth to find an old shotgun cartridge.Today I went down and in a lot of thick grass found an arrow that had been lost for over three months and the owner of it was taking the mickey as they had looked for an hour and not found a thing,he was gobsmacked as he was watching me do my stuff.Sorted. So to all of those who expect £500 performance from this Detector forget it, this is a great bit of kit if you want to start off with something not Mickey Mouse,Bright Pink or falling apart after a day at the beach then get one of these,Easy Peasy setting it up as there are not a lot of bits nor fiddly parts to lose in the carpet and its easy instructions are a doddle to understand,I did and I am 64,its light and not going to tear your arm off after an hours detecting, its a great easy to use and fun bit of kit,oh yes,it is not a nasty piece of junk either we are very happy with it and when you consider our arrows are wood and only have a Metal Point this great little detector found arrows in over two inches of compacted grass and even deep grass when 6 blokes looking for them could not then all I can say is buy it and have some great fun finding all things metal,I am going down again to the range soon and I have some places where there are quite a few lost arrows and I am totally confident that our NEW Club Metal Detector will find all the arrows we have lost this YEAR,no problem. WARTS NONE. POINTS OUT OF 20, EASY 25. Review: Casual treasure hunting :) - Nice present for the beginner/hobbyist. No use spending hundreds of £ if the item is used for a few weeks, then to be shelved, as happens with many gizmos. And that is where this relatively cheap priced metal detector fits in. It does have a comprehensive analogue readout, yet it sports certain features found on more expensive metal detectors : headphone jack, sensitivity and volume regulator, and a discriminating dial ( the latter not so discriminating ). I found the item works quite well on sandy beaches, with good detection. Kids will love this "toy", yet it is not really a toy meaning that a certain level of experience is needed, especially with ground proximity. If abused the detector will break, as with most detectors. Having said that, the detector is very well priced, and I would recommend it to families who want to involve their kids, even though its easier said than done as the parents will end up using it :)

Not bad piece of kit
Ok admittedly I should have got more specifics about this product such as the length of the poles that connect the head of the detector to the controls I'm 6ft plus tall and it's just a tad too short for my liking but anyways the product does find metal objects no problem I've found all kinds of junk in my local field behind my home can't wait to get it on Skegness beach and give it a real test I look forward to it. The controls are simple and easy to use The downsides are not quite long enough for my liking besides that its an ok piece of kit for any beginner metal detector hobbyist I am planning on purchasing a much more accurate and powerful metal detector in the future and when I do I will ensure that it's designed for us tall adults to use lol I'd recommend this product it hasn't failed me yet in finding metal objects I've only found junk up to yet lol

Not just good.
A week ago I lost my wedding ring. I had started to put new windows in my bungalow. First day, take out the old window, prepare to put insulation in the empty cavity. At night, realised I was no longer wearing my ring. Hadn't been out so it must be in the house. Next day, looked everywhere, nothing. Thinks. I had had my hand inside the cavity, maybe the ring had dropped off and down between the bricks. It was quite loose. Cut bricks out of the base of the wall below the window, fished out muck and mortar, vacuumed out the dust, nothing. Desperate thinks. At the end of the day I had rinsed out a bucket and thrown out the water on the lawn. Could it have slipped off in the water? Cut the grass short with shears and a fingertip search. Still nothing. Maybe I had trodden it down into the soil. Late at night ordered metal detector. Delivery only 36 hours later. Straight out in the garden in the rain. Set controls to all metal, just to get the hang of it. Prepare to search about 200 square feet. After no more than 2 square feet, beep, beep. At the edge of the cut grass, where I had already looked and looked, in amongst the overgrown white gravel, there was my 9 carat gold ring. Not worth a lot, but priceless in sentiment. Thank you, In21 Direct, your detector is not just good, it's magic.

Disapointed Child at Christmas
My son was looking for a metal detector ALL YEAR so we arranged for Santa to bring one at Christmas. On opening the gift my son was ecstatic, however due to the terrible weather we could only use it indoors. All Christmas day was spent hiding pennies and waiting for dry weather. On the FIRST USE OUTDOORS, the unit failed. I changed batteries and made sure to check the instructions - just in case. My son was terribly disappointed and wanted to know why Santa would bring broken toys! When asked what the best part of Christmas was it was getting a metal detector - the worst part - was getting a broken one! I would avoid this like the plague if you are buying for a child or at least make sure you check it well before handing it over. In saying that the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The machine is flimsy but it is cheap and you wouldn't want a child to have to carry a heavy one. I will be returning this ASAP.

Seems pretty good, but test it on coins first to make sure you know what it can find
Bought for a seven year old. I have no previous experience, and initially suspected that this was not working properly as I expected a metal detector to sense the presence of metal if held over it. I now realise this is not how they work because most use constant auto adjustment to variations in signal back from the ground, and only beep on rapid CHANGES. So you need to sweep side to side at optimum speed, and then when a beep occurs, sweep forward and backward to locate the object at the intersection of two sweep lines. This is not emphasised enough in instructions. Current coins are detected about 100mm max below the loop, no more. Silver and copper may be a bit easier to detect as they are more conductive (threepenny bits and old pennies are slightly more effective as a test - modern 'copper' coins are plated steel. It's important to establish by such trials that you are able to detect what you are looking for, and generally its best to have max sensitivity and minimum discrimination. The latter works, rejecting iron and steel but at the cost of sensitivity, so it's no use just turning it up to full discrimination and expecting to find gold! You need to prove that your setting is still sensitive enough or you will just miss everything. Not sure what to make of the meter and I suspect it's just cosmetic as it seems to just jump to full scale on a beep. It's a pity that two PP3 batteries are needed, but this is the case with some other detectors. Don't waste money on Duracell, especially in shops where they cost over double what you need to pay. GP Alkaline PP3's are very nearly as good as Duracell (same life, slightly less max current capability, but for this use they will perform just the same at about £1 each.) I can vouch for this as, being an electronics designer I have in the past evaluated both GP Alkaline and Duracell PP3s on dummy load tests plotting voltage against time, to check for suitability in my own equipment. Don't use cheap non-alkaline batteries; these are effectively obsolete technology anyway and will not supply the current needed without tiring after a short period of use. Found some thin rusty steel and aluminium foil on the beach, but no gold yet! Living near the coast, the sands after a busy summer day seem the best bet for finding lost items.

Lightweight but works well
When the box first arrived I was surprised how small and light it was. Oh no - not a kid's toy was my first thought. But put it together - and if you have a problem with the twist grip in the middle of the handle which looks like it has been broken and can never work, read the instructions and persevere as it does work very well - and you find that you have a lightweight machine which is really very easy to use and is effective. Assembly time is a coupe of minutes. I'm only a beginner at this kind of thing, but have already been impressed regarding the number of used beer cans that were buried under my lawn...... It does require two 9v batteries (those that used to be known as PP3s and fitted in smoke alarms and small radios) so be sure to order these at the same time or that you have in the house on delivery, or you will be really frustrated having assembled the thing. Good buy at the price.

Reasonable
Item was dispatched quickly. Easy to assemble and reasonably well made. We have taken it out a couple of times. You have to keep it almost touching the surface but it does detect, although it is a little tricky to pin point exact place to dig. This may be just because we haven't got used to it yet. Overall not bad for the money paid.
