Is there an alternative? Not anything better available
2010 Toyota Sienna AWD, there's not a good way to install the OEM-style clamp without some major disassembly. While the quality of materials and construction of this tool aren't top-notch, I was unable to find a better-quality tool of similar function at any price, and it worked splendidly for the one clamp I needed it for. Even if I had to re-purchase this tool every single time I needed to clamp that boot clamp, it would still be worth the price. Will it hold up to five or ten uses? Maybe, maybe not. Does it cinch the clamp perfectly square? No; Lisle has done a good job of designing non-articulating jaws that have a compromise radius, and honestly IMO it's Good Enough. The cinch that it produces exceeds the tension of the silly sardine-can wind-up bands, and is worlds better than a zip-tie. And it can be operated parallel with the boot, which is necessary on the AWD version of this Sienna.

Not bad. Not perfect.
In all honesty, I don't know precisely what I was hoping for but this isn't it. This tool does an adequate job of tightening ear clamps from the side, but it does not do a great job of keeping the crimp flat. It's possible that the tool was intended to be used where no other option was possible and it's a "take what you can get" type of thing, but I used it mostly as a convenience and due to the height of the crimp it didn't really end up saving time or effort. I could have just removed the bracket that was in the way and used a standard plier. Eh, you live and learn, and the price is not high enough I regret the purchase. So, four stars because it does crimp clamps from the side and does seem well made... it just doesn't do a GREAT job.

Great tool for its purpose
Perfect for those smaller boot clamps that are on some BMW hoses, fits in most of the hard to reach spots. I use this tool in a professional capacity, and it's been great so far. Feels sturdy and worth the money. Definitely saves time. I have yet to use it on a CV axle boot, and I don't plan to, I have a robust tool for that.

Excellent tool! Could not have replaced my inner steering rod boots w/o it!
I needed a boot clamp plier to crimp a steel band that is deep in my Honda Odyssey. The normal clamp pliers wouldn’t work as there is no space to crimp the band. This was my first time using pliers and clamps, so it took me a few tries. These pliers worked well and is def worth getting if you have a similar situation as I did. They seem to be decent quality.

I originally bought these to tighten down the clamps for the steering rack / tie rod dust boots on my 2017 BMW X6 that could only be reached by approaching the clamps from the side. Completed the job perfectly!

One of those tools that you might use once every few years but makes doing steering rack boot clips so much easier. Tool is well made and easy to use.
