Village Hats French Pith Helmet - Khaki

The pith helmet was quickly shipped and was really well packed. It's very lightweight but seems sturdy. It looks great on, very flattering! (I'm a woman and was afraid it would look stupid, but it looks conservative and really good.) Nice brim size and wider at the back to protect your neck. The velcro adjustable inside headband makes it fit great. I can bend over without it falling off, but doesn't feel at all tight. It has three ventilation grommets on each side, plus ventilation through the top button. The strap across the brim is decorative only and doesn't undo. The fabric is a nice mid-toned khaki buff. Now for quality and value. The construction isn't perfect. There are unfinished edges in the lining, for instance, and a slight imperfection in the under structure (the pith). There are four straps inside that form a sort-of interior crown to make sure there is air between the real crown and your head. Those straps are joined with a little piece of what looks like bakery string. (I'll be replacing that...maybe with a bit of leather thong) But this cost less than 20 quid, and the quality is more than adequate for the price! I bought this for a camel trek in the sahara, but I think it will go on all sunny destination vacations from now on! I'll try to remember to come back and let everyone know how it performs in the "field". So far I'm loving this!

Stylish and solidly made, very good item

I have actually worn these on holiday in hot climates and they work. (If you don't mind people pointing and laughing!) My only complaint is, probably because most people buy these for fancy dress or cosplay, not much thought has gone into the usability of the chinstrap. This is a lightweight rigid sun hat. If it's windy, it will blow away. You need a quick and easy to tighten chinstrap. It doesn't have that. It has a badly constructed, impossible to do up, strip of horrible leather(?) which is just there for show. It's going to be a job to replace it as they've riveted it directly to the pith. But if you are fair of face and sunburn easily, consider these as real sun protection. They do work.

Sturdy, light helmet made from genuine pith and it looks fantastic. I bought this to wear on long walks with mates. We have all decided to get ourselves unusual hats to don on our explorations and what better hat to wear when I am exploring.

Surprisingly good quality for the price and works well as a sun hat or for fancy dress. I like it.

Good fit and comfortable, survived a moderate rainfall with no issues. Build quality is good. Only draw back is the adjustment strap only allows you to adjust the fit by about 10-15mm

This really is a good hat, nice quality, the leather strap isn't too bad either. Only once gripe, it could have been a bit bigger , it just fits but there isn't any adjustment left

lo ho preso per fare un safari in Kenya (Africa) ed è piaciuto un sacco sia alle guide che ai turisti che viaggiavano con noi. Il cappello è in balsa quindi rigido ma leggero allo stesso tempo, tiene la testa fresca dal caldo Africano... con stile. Anche in Egitto molto comodo contro sole e caldo, in più se batti la testa sulle Jeep non ti fai male in quanto è rigido. Unica pecca il pugaree (la striscia di pelle) che di pelle non è ... da portare a far rifare dal vostro calzolaio di fiducia !!! Il pugaree si usa quando siete contro vento, ad esempio durante il safari con il tettuccio aperto, x non far volare via il cappello. Consigliatissimo
