Photographers must read this review

I do ALOT of wildlife, nature and portrait photography and I bought this to replace my aged and beaten near to death promaster 3484. Let's talk rating - its a 5 star product, I want to review it at 4.5 stars because I wish the cord it came with was about a foot longer but for 5 or 10 bucks I can buy a longer 3.0 cord so its not like it's a deal breaker.Speed? 130 full size RAW photos from my nikon d810 imported into lightroom from a CF card in 148 seconds - nearly 4x faster than from the old promaster reader.Quality? It seems to be built fairly well, sleek and small so its unobtrusive but it doesn't feel flimsy or weak.Card fit? The card ports are well fitted, however be cautious with the CF slot as the pins COULD bend even on the most expensive of card readers - so be easy when inserting a CF card just like you're supposed to be anyway...Longevity? I'll try to remember to write another review in about 6 months after it's been used heavily.Price? Low price for high quality - you don't have to spend 50 to 80$ for a WELL MADE cars reader. This one is perfect for the job and the price is right.TLDR : its a well made reader with great import speeds even for large RAW photos, so any fellow I photographers that need a new reader, I would recommend this one all day. For quality and price, I don't think you'll find a better one.

It's versatile, and unique for having dual SD card slots. Sadly it falls short of advertised speeds.

I think with these little card readers you typically get what you pay for, and sometimes it falls short of your expectations. Many inexpensive 3.0 card readers can be found on Amazon. I own multiple. I even own one particular card reader that is part of a type C hub with ethernet, VGA, and HDMI outputs, as well as multiple 3.0 ports. This is the one card reader I have that wasn't particularly inexpensive. I included it in my testing simply for comparison purposes.Since most SD and MicroSD cards top out at under 100MB/s transfer speeds, cheaper card readers have always been able to get away with less than 100MB/s transfer speeds. How would you be able to tell if the card reader could transfer faster if the card isn't even that fast?Times are changing somewhat, and now faster than 100MB/s cards can be found in more places and at more competitive prices. I picked up a two pack of MicroSD 128GB Sandisk Extreme cards at Costco for $40 on sale. Even at the normal price of $44, this is still quite inexpensive. The price becomes even more appreciated when you realize these cards boast 170MB/s read speeds and 90MB/s writes. I purchased them for my Nikon D610 full frame SLR camera, looking forward to getting faster speeds for rapid shooting and video capture. In addition, I was really looking forward to the extra read speeds when emptying my card onto my computer for editing and archiving purposes.Today, I had to order a Lexar Professional Card reader, and it was more expensive than all the card readers I tested with the exception of the Type C multiport hub. Why, you ask? And what does this have to do with anything?I'm glad you asked!! Exactly NONE of the 3.0 card readers I own get anywhere near their advertised speeds. None of them are able to truly test the max speeds of my newer memory cards. In addition to the Sandisk extremes I recently purchased, my Lexar Professional 128GB wicked fast 1667x cards arrived. I threw them into the test as well. Boasting 250MB/s reads and 120MB/s writes, I was excited to see the more than double speeds versus most of my older SD cards. I was highly disappointed when ALL FIVE card readers tested (including the internal one in my laptop!!) had a strange cap on reads. None of the write speeds exceeded 90MB/s, so I will assume those measurements are correct for now.But every single card was only able to pull a max read speed of approximately 91-95MB/s. This was regardless of the port I used, the computer I used it on, or whether I used the microSD to SD adapter sleeve (with one exception). The results are incredibly consistent, the only outlier being one card reader that dropped from 93MB/s reads and 85MB/s writes to 23MB/s reads and 22MB/s writes when using the adapter. It was the Insignia branded multi-card reader from Best But, that had this peculiar drop. None of other card readers changed much more than a 1MB/s difference when using or not using the micro adapter sleeve. I tested 3 different SD cards, and one microSD card both with and without the adapter. The results are almost identical across the board with the Insignia brand performing the poorest out of the 5, largely due to the drop to essentially 2.0 speeds when using the microSD adapter. Even with that test thrown out, the Insignia still performs slower than the other 4 card readers tested. So do I recommend this USB 3.0 card reader? It depends. For most SD cards out there, the speeds will be sufficient. It is indeed much faster than a 2.0 card reader. I am frustrated that they advertise much faster speeds than what the card reader is capable of, but the truth is, it will still work well for your needs, and other than that, I have no issue with it.

Didn't last 4 months before eating my card

I purchased this item in July 2023, and it is now November 2023, and I can't get my card out. The norm is to press on the card, which pops out; when I pressed this time, the card went deeper. I had to take it apart to get my card out. It was cheap, and it worked according

From Old to New, Your Data is Easy to View

I was rummaging through some boxes and found some old compact flash cards fro a camera I used in the early 2000’s. Well, the reader is long gone. And needing a reader that can also read my more current SD cards, this Zedela reader seemed like a perfect choice.Unpacking it I was impressed with sleekness, the solid build (not some chintzy plastic thing), and the compact size. I plugged it into my trusty Windows XP Desktop (rather than anything newer), and blink, blink, blink the reader was recognized without an issue and the images were ready for viewing/download without a hitch.Great product that’s very versatile.

Doesn't Stand the Test of Time

Worked good for the first few years however stopped working. Too flimsy. They need to make these things solid.

DON'T LOOSE DATA!

I'm professional video/photo producer and I've had a variety of card readers over the years. Loosing footage/images are our greatest fear.A little over a year ago I actually had a card reader corrupt footage. I didn't think that was possible. It read fine in the camera when I previewed the hour long 4K event, captured on pro media. Popped it into a card reader that erred during transfer, so I switched to another reader and the data was corrupted. Yes, both of those card readers went immediately into the trash.I wanted new ones and the Zedela had high reviews. I've never been disappointed. The transfer speed on our fast cards (CF, SD, etc.) is great and always seems to auto connect.I trust these readers w/my livelyhood.
