Beall Basic 3 Size Wood Threading Kit

Works well, but takes a little finesse to get things right. This is an easy way to make screws and nuts. The results depend on your patience. I think it's best to make the nut first, then the screw. How well the screw fits into the nut depends on the height of the router when you make the screw. 1/16th of a turn on the router height adjustment makes a big difference.

Great Product, the only issue is the high cost of freight to Australia. The unit does a great job & the taps are excellent. Over all so good I have just purchased the 1 1/4" & 1 1/2 " set!!

Works really good. It requires some fiddlin' to get setup just right. Just remember that until the threads engage at the back, the threaded portion will be wavy looking, so expect to cut off about an inch after you've run the dowel through.

I have tried all sorts of methods for creating wood threads ranging from a whole bunch of homemade/homegrown solutions to using purchased wood thread tap boxes. The Beal system is simply the best solution out there for creating wood threads. Using a tap box you are cutting the threads with a blade and no matter how many precautions you take I always tend to get a lot of chip out on the threads. Of course the chip outs do not affect the operation of the wood thread but it does not look pleasant or professional. Cutting the thread with a router using the Beal jig produces the cleanest thread with minimal chip out. Highly recommend if you are making projects where wooden threads are being used as design features.

I had a problem of aligning the router bit because of configuration of my router. Base was not wide enough but in general it shhould work out..

Wonderful Tool. Router attached in minutes and produced 1” oak thread and oak nut in 15 min. Instructions were plain and easy to follow. Hint: do a few sample depths before final. Less deep with a flat thread top gives a tighter fit.

The only choice! Many woodworking outlets (Woodcraft, Grizzly, etc) sell threading kits that use a die-like thread box to cut the external threads. I bought one made by Wood River that was utterly incapable of cutting a clean thread in hard woods. It simply tore out the threads, whether I used lubricant as they suggested, or not. Next, I tried single point turning the threads on my screw cutting lathe... same result: the low surface speed needed to cut an 8 pitch thread simply tore the wood apart. I guess I might have been able to turn the threads on the lathe if I took .001" cuts, but that is impractical. Then, I bought the Beall kit and it worked perfectly. It actually mills the threads using a carbide 60 degree cutter in your router that is fed at the right pitch by their ingenious fixture. The idea works so well that I'm going to adapt it to my lathe using a pneumatic die grinder mounted on the carriage so that I can cut any size and pitch thread that I want. Then I don't have to buy a pricey kit for each set of threads I want to cut.

This is a fantastic, well thought out machine that works perfectly for its intended use. The taps included are also very high quality and cut very nicely. You can also buy additional inserts / taps for 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" threads.
