The original cord failed, primarily due to a lot of coiling and uncoiling for daily use in a variety of vehicles. This cord is more robust than the original. In case you are wondering, do NOT purchase a non-Garmin cord for your Garmin GPS. Something else may power it, but the GPS functionality will not be the same, or some functions may not even work. Worth the money.

I cut the cord on the original power supply which came with my Garmin GPS because I was wiring it directly to the fuse box. Unfortunately I didn't realize the cable inside was shielded... I thought it was going to be a simple two wire connection -- positive and negative. The shielded cable was difficult to splice and resolder therefore I purchased this Garmin 10-24V transformer. This power cord works well... But I didn't realize the Garmin Traffic Receiver was built into the OEM Garmin power cord. That being said, the GPS functions correctly, but I do not receive traffic alerts... which is kind of a bummer knowing the GPS is capable of rerouting me depending on traffic reports. All in all good product. However buyers should be aware that traffic alerts cannot be communicated through this power cable.

This is a case of "No news is good news". Like I stated, works as intended and for just a few dollars more than a generic model, you get a real Garmin accessory. The biggest advantage of using this over the data/power cable and a USB power adapter is that the GPS actually "knows" that this is a power-only cable and doesn't keep giving you that picture of a computer and stops trying to go into that weird data mode that just wastes time. My Garmin did come with a automotive power cord but it's one of those HUGE power and traffic antenna combo units that seems about as big a small set of jumper cables!!! I exaggerate but not by a lot!!! Since my area doesn't really support the local trafic data feature, dealing with trying to conceal and route that bulky cable around the dash (and away from the passenger side air-bag) is bothersome. This small but effective power cable is much easier to deal with. As always.... I'll update my review if anything changes.

I thought there was something wrong solely with my Garmin GPS thankfully NOT!! It was my charger the whole time. I mean I changed the fuse on my old plug several times and still didn't charge my Garmin Nuvi 65. That is till I ordered this item. It is an OEM charger from Garmin box was sealed when I got it. As soon as I plugged it into my cirgirette lighter plug and then into my Garmin GPS woola I was back in business. For the price to me was worth not assuming I had to buy a whole new GPS. Dave NYC

I tried a cheaper off-brand one that wouldn't be recognized by the GPS and didn't work at all. This one did the trick for a decent price. I haven't had a chance to see if it will do the traffic updates thingy but I'm happy with it just simply powering up the GPS and allowing me to use my GPS in different vehicles without having to undo the semi-permanent wiring of the power adapter that came with it that I have set up in my most used vehicle. This is a great second cord for the Garmin Nuvi 2789LM.

Simplemente conectar y permanentemente se puede llevar el GPS en funcionamiento, otros cargadores no funcionan, ya que es como si conectaras el GPS al ordenador y no se puede navegar con él.

This is an original GARMIN vehicle power cable, known as type TA20 with the blue LED light and suitable for different GARMIN GPS models using a mini USB connector, and equipped with build in traffic control. Pitty that this inormation is not explicitly mentioned in the ad !!
