Cliffsnotes on Dickens' a Tale of Two Cities (Cliffsnotes Literature Guides)

I have found reason to use Cliff Notes at various times in the past years. They are always helpful. They provide background information about the author, the times he lived in and a brief overview of the book. Then they break down the book chapter by chapter and explain what is happening in each chapter to the characters. Difficult language is defined. Difficult concepts are expounded upon. What they do not do is give you the answers for a test or explain everything so clearly that you won't have to read the book. These are a help to understanding the book. This one on A Tale of two Cities was very complete and very helpful.

Tale of Two Cities was a challenge. I read it for pleasure, but the vocabulary and period it was written made some passages difficult to understand. There were several chapters that this helped me comprehend.

I purchased these cliff notes for my son who was reading this book as a school assignment. The names, terms, society, everything in Dickens' book are just too different from modern American society for a young person to comprehend very well, let alone be 'tested' on. He read both the book and the cliff notes and needed both to really understand what was going on and the point of many of the passages.

It so helped in clarifying the characters and explaining some confusion I had regarding the plot. My only objection was in describing one of the characters in the character list it gave away the surprise ending. I was reading Cliff Notes after each chapter, not after reading the whole book, so I was sorry I knew the ending ahead of getting there.

I remembered how handy these were in college. Wanted my bookworm grandson (12) to tackle “Tale of Two Cities”. Should help him greatly to enjoy and understand importance of novel.

My son's teacher recommended and it was very useful for the kids to read along side and then review and discuss. Definitely helps a student see and consider what they dis not originally grasp with initial reading

Not that this product is bad, but I don't like recommending this in lieu of reading the book. In our case it suited the purpose since the young lady for whom it was purchased was about to go into full rebellion over reading this most boring book. Of all the books Dickens wrote why do High Schools insist on this one? Parents, help your kids occasionally with the Cliff notes but don't make a habit of it.

Bought this for the book clock I am making in my library. The price was great and it will work great. I wanted a nostalgic reminder of my high school days.

Le roman est touffu et passionnant, ce petit résumé ne problématise rien mais il est fort utile pour recenser qui fait quoi et dans quel chapitre. Permet d'économiser un temps par ailleurs précieux quand on recherche un épisode précis.

Das Buch "A Tale of Two Cities" war eines meiner Englischbücher für die Matur. Ich habe es gelesen und als Ergänzung dieses Buch gekauft. Da stehen wirklich gute Sachen drin. An der Mündlichprüfung habe ich gar nicht mehr aufgehört mit Interpretieren und Ausführen, und die Beurteiler waren beeindruckt. ; ) Ich habe eine Supernote bekommen.

i started reading A Tale Of Two Cities and although enjoyable, had no idea what anything meant (old British English). The Cliff notes give a short general explanation of each chapter and the current meaning of some words so i am really grateful to be able to have an idea of what the Dickens was writing about. Turns out it is much more than a novel, its talking about French/ British history (which i did not know untill I started reading the Cliff Notes). This is not an in depth interpretation (the Cliff Notes book is short) but an excellent start into more independent research, or if you prefer, enough to understand the book in general. Ive never used a Cliff Notes to accompany a book but will definately continue with future books. Very happy i discovered this.
