Good assortment of woods for tiny, tabletop smokers
Good assortment of woods for my small food/drink smoker. Imparts smoke flavor to foods and drinks. These are for tiny, tabletop smokers, not for outdoor smokers that require large quantities of wood.

Great chips, poor packaging
These chips are designed ONLY for use in stovetop smokers such as these: Camerons Products Stainless Steel Stovetop Smoker Nordic Ware Oven Essentials Indoor and Outdoor Smoker They work wonderfully for that purpose, and a little goes a long way. We get at least a year's worth of frequent smoking out of one set of chips. Each variety has its own unique flavor and aroma. In our most recent order, three of the containers were the maroon and white label shown in the photo, while the fourth was a mismatched, full-color label. Since this was a gift for a friend, I really wish that all four containers had matched. Also, the packaging is sorely lacking. I typically do NOT talk about packing problems in a product review, but in this case it is the design of the pint containers that makes the packing problematic. The lids snap on like margarine tub lids, but fit quite loosely. As a result, each time we order, at least one lid has jostled off, with chips spilled all over the inside the box. Its wasteful, and seems like it could really compromise the freshness of the chips. A tighter fitting lid and/or disposable seal would really be an improvement. Other than those two, minor gripes, this is a great set, offering variety and quality at a reasonable price.

Best cold smoke chips I could find
First, please note that these are small wood chips/sawdust that is intended for use with an indoor cold smoker, not a backyard BBQ smoker. I see a bunch of 1-star reviews by people who apparently expected large wood chips for a backyard BBQ smoker, but they clearly didn't read the description where it's stated multiple times what it is. Having said that, this is great value for the money. I looked hard and couldn't find better cold smoke fuel for a comparable price. The flavor isn't quite as intense as some of the much more expensive suppliers, but it's still good and I'll be buying from them again. Though not for a while, because this package came with enough wood chips to last me for over a year (I only use a few pinches per week to smoke steak). I'm glad I got the mix pack to try out different flavors, but in the end my favorite is hickory. Hickory has the most intense smoke flavor of the various types, which I guess is why it's so popular. Cherry is the sweetest, while Oak and Alder are like milder forms of hickory.

BEST SMOKING CHIPS
These are really good smoking chips. So far I have cooked with Cherry, Hickory and Alder.I mixed 50/50 cherry and Hickory together for Chicken and Ribs.Next time, I think I will mix 2 tablespoons of Hickory together with one tablespoon of Cherry to get more flavor. I used Alder for some Talipia Fish.I wasn't use to the smell of Alder and thought something was burning. The fish came out very tasty.I coated the fillets in lemon juice and seasoned them. The worst mistake I made was to soak the wood chips in Lemon juice. I havent tried the Oak chips yet.I can't wait to try Apple and Pecan. Note:Do not use any Acidic Liquids to soak wood chips in the Smoker!I have a Max Burton brand Stovetop Smoker. The Lemon juice stuck, so badly to the bottom of the smoker, that I thought I was going to have to purchase another one.I cleaned the bottom of the Smoker with oven cleaner.

Love my stovetop smoker!
I use my Cameron Stovetop Smoker for all kinds of meat and fish. I have an assortment of wood varieties to fit whatever I am smoking. I use this to jack up the wood grill flavor prior to sous vide cooking and searing. Great for trout, salmon and shrimp too. Will be placing my second reorder shortly.

My husband has a smoker and uses these to cook meat, chicken and pork. He likes the variety and can try different wood chips for each smoked product. Convenient containers.
