Durable, long lasting, great quality.
I was reviewing my old orders on amazon and came across this purchase and had to leave a review. I purchased this whistle Nov 1, 2016 and since the week I got it, it has been an essential piece of hiking gear and I never go hiking without it! It’s been up to Acadia National Park and to the top of Mount Washington with me. I leave it in my car 24/7 around my headrest so it’s always there when I need it. I hike/trail run at least 15 times a month but even after 3 years of use and abuse, the string and whistle are still in the same great condition as when I first got it. I’ve tied it to my backpack, worn it around my neck, tied it to my water bottle, worn it around my wrist, and I’ve even used it as a makeshift belt quite a few times by looping the whistle strings through my belt loops and tying the ends together so my pants would stay up when I impulsively decided I wanted to go to trail running after work but didn’t have proper attire. Great product, great quality. Would buy again and recommend.

It's quite loud!!
I travel full-time with a fifteen year old dog who can't hear anything but a ear-piercing whistle. Neither can he hear silent whistles. But this whistle he can hear. I wear earbuds when we're hiking or anytime I need to get his attention. The buds prevent my ears from ringing. My dog is almost always on leash. But there are times when he's not. It's those times that I use the whistle to get his attention. If we're in a quiet area, he can hear a low whistle. But if the wind is blowing or we're in a noisy area, he can hear only the high shrill that this whistle gives off when blown hard. Once I have his eyes, he responds to my gestures. I also keep this whistle on me when in camping/hiking mode for obvious safety reasons. Other than to call my dog, I haven't had to use it for anything else. Let's hope I never have to.

Good whistle with several uses
Nice and loud, durable, and it won't rust. This is a decent-quality whistle that I use with my hunting partners so we can keep in contact without scaring away game. They have helped us find each other in the woods, and we sometimes use them just to help us keep track of where each other is, while still hunting. I've also used them to get a bear's attention several times, when I wanted them to see me along salmon streams in Alaska. That usually is enough to encourage the bears to move off and let me pass. I also keep one on my boat, as a signaling device. Electric horns on boats are notorious for corroding and failing, and the Coast Guard considers these whistles as adequate, which has helped me pass boarding inspections a couple of times. For me, its just cheap insurance that I'll be able to get someone's attention if I need to, or to avoid a ticket in case the Coast Guard wants to do an inspection. I like plastic better than metal for a whistle because its usually more comfortable to use if its cold out. Let me know if my review was helpful.

Works great!
+ Bright color + Sturdy lanyard + Nice and loud + Small so I can carry in my pocket or running hip pouch + Inexpensive...so I bought one when I'm on runs and a dog decides to come after me or when I'm at the dog park and agressive dogs get into it (loud noise like whistle or air horn does wonders). Also got one for my daughter to carry with her for emergencies. My boys already had one from boy scouts as a whistle is a great survival tool when you're off hiking. Only improvement is the metal ring that attaches lanyard to whistle could be a slightly better quality, but since this was only $1.64 at the time, I'm not deducting stars
