I would have liked to have given this version 5 stars but alas it is a great example of style over substance. Although the sound quality is excellent I was disappointed in the bonus material. There is none. The package itself is very good but the lack of anything new or unheard lets it down.

There are many versions of this classic album on the market. Most are good, some bad & few exceptional. This version is somewhere between good & exceptional. The sound is tight, crisp & clear. The tracks are (no surprise) fantastic. This album introduced the Stones to a new generation - a generation that was unaware of anything the Stones did prior. However most who read this will probably want to hear more about the SACD term applied to this version. SACD is a Sony product designed to take the standard stereo version into the surround sound world. however due to the particular mastering of some older albums only stereo is available not to mention also the fact that most people were still committed to the only stereo equipment they were aware of - equipment that did not support this newer technology which was hidden in sub layers designated as hybrid SACDs. Are you confused yet? well so was I for a long long time. An SACD can provide a multi channel experience when the original album masters permit. Like many others, I came across hybrid SACDs & repurchased them to get this Super Audio sound promised only to hear the same quality already in my collection (eg I purchased a Sympathy for the Devil multi channel SACD & tried real hard to hear some quality upgrade only to be disappointed once again). Life went on until one day after purchasing a new blu ray player I decided to listen once again to Sympathy; to my astonishment I heard maracas coming from one speaker, congas from another, more congas from another, guitar & piano from another then found myself in the center of my room right smack dab in the middle of the music. I felt like I was in the studio with the Stones. But I digress & return to the subject at hand- this SACD 2 channel stereo version of this album. It is(to my ears) cleaner, crisper &better than the standard cd but not as enjoyable as that multi channel version (for that you require a Sony SACD player to get the sound promoted). You will get a great sound with a standard CD player because this is a hybrid version and standard CDs at lower prices will give you the same great experience. I am now on a personal quest to discover more about this SACD technology. For those still reading this review you may not be aware that blu ray versions of certain albums are out there at exorbitant prices that purport to be superior to compete with this SACD technology. More changes are coming (the vinyl record is a temporary aberration)
