Protocol De-icing Key Holder with Light - Melts Ice in Keyhole - "Major Meltdown!" - desertcart.com Review: Very useful gaget for thawing our house door lock. - Until we got this gizmo, we struggled to get in the front door of our house. Ice in the lock prevented our key from turning the mechanism. We got this magic key--as we call it---and perfect results. Not only that, the front door has been fine every since. Of course, we added some graphite treatment right after we thawed it out. We love our Pella door, but this problem had us frustrated, and we did not feel safe using matches. I am very satisfied. You just push the sliding button to make the key extend, and it heats up by itself. You slide the button back to retract the hot key and trigger the cooling of it. A separate button turns on the light if you need it. We keep the gadget in our car. Review: Did not work - One star apparently means, "I hate it." I don't hate this gadget, it just doesn't work. I purchased it because my building's front gate lock often freezes in the winter. Knowing this, I ordered this (for $5.99-- unsure why the price has gone up so much). The de-icing "wand" it much too large to fit all the way in the keyhole. The wand gets warm, but nothing to warm up the locking mechanism.

this thing gets HOT
I tested this out before I gave it as a gift , heats up in a hurry. No frozen locks to test but the light works, and is nice to have in car just in case.

Garbage
This didn't work and fell apart in a hot second. I didn't even get a chance to use it. It died in my purse. RIP.

This little device works really well, better than a spray de-icer which can clog up the lock. This is clean and effective.
