For anyone working with sheet metal, especially in the HVAC trade, a scribing tool like this one is essential. It draws perfect circles for cutting in round duct take-offs on square duct and various other installation applications. It isn't a complicated tool, which contributes a lot to its effectiveness. The points center and scribe well on metal and other materials. The screw that holds the arms in place at the desired measurement doesn't slip or loosen. The entire tool is constructed out of good quality steel. Mine usually sits in my sheet metal bag with a hammer, various snips, seamers, and a bunch of other tools that bang around and get treated very roughly. The arms have stayed straight, the points are sharp, and the hinge points are still solid. Malco is a big name in sheet metal tools for a good reason. Their products usually perform well and last a long time. This tool is no exception.
