I thought I'd try one of these as I sometimes get fed up with ripping labels off before recycling, especially when they tear and take several attempts. The Vantamo one, amongst hundreds of alternatives, seemed to get good reviews and comes with 6 refills of oil-based ink, so took a gamble. I'm not sure which alternatives use water-based ink and I'm not sure which type would be better overall. It's quite sturdy and the roll-over process is very satisfying; it works very well to obscure certain labels, but beware that on some it does not. Looks OK to start with but at certain angles it's possible to read just about everything, so a determined snooper could see through it. Note that these limitations are clearly mentioned in the instructions, though, so there's nothing misleading here. I think the basic rule is: if the ink still appears to be shiny and can smudge off after, say, a minute, then it's not suited to that particular surface and so it may be possible to still see information. I get the impression this is a universal thing, though, and not specific to this model/ink (although I have seen that there may be some inks that are specifically formulated for more shiny surfaces–no experience with those yet as they don't apply to this model). This is an excellent quality device that does its intended job as long as one is careful about the printed surface: always check before recycling! As I said, limitations are clearly documented, 6 refills in the pack AND if you register you get 6 more! Superb! As well as that, an extended warranty and a PDF booklet which is a quite basic, U.S.-centric guide on data security in general which might be useful to some.

Great little gadget - easy to now just chuck post etc into the recycling without having to rip off and destroy labels separately. Great value with 6 refills so think it will last a long time. Very happy.

Well packaged. Simple and easy to use design. As it says in the instructions it will only work well on certain types of paper and to cover certain types of ink. It worked really well on till receipts. It is a sensible width that easily covered bank card and transaction details in one easy roll. The ink dries quickly. On receipts the information was completely secure. Also worked well on doctors prescription spare page with repeat prescription info. All hidden with one pass. I initially tried it on the address label on the Amazon packaging for this product. Looked good initially but as the ink dried the printed text shone through. On many of the printed letter documents I found similar problem. The ink was absorbed in to the paper and left the text visible but slightly obscured underneath. I’d read someone else suggesting a perpendicular second pass over worked better. If looking to do a second pass (in whatever direction) make sure the ink has dried otherwise it’s smudges and makes the print underneath even more visible. Also if covering large number of items in quick succession the ink starts to get slightly grey rather than black as depositing thinner layer. Just pop the lid on and leave for a minute or two and it’s ready to use properly again. Would be frustrating if dealing with large number of documents though! Great for: Till receipts Small volume Less effective: Certain documents with absorbent paper or slightly raised inks eg some bank statements High volume continuous use Think one of the other brands for these devices has an oilier ink that might not be absorbed into paper as much, so may work on these documents better. I think for some of my documents I might use this for important lines and then shred them too! But will definitely be using on all my receipts and then they can go in recycling!

This roller stamp works great and is easy to use on envelopes and documents that you want to hide sensitive information on. I've only used it for a couple of weeks, so I don't know how long the ink will last.

J’en avais marre de passer des plombes à déchirer mes courriers à la main ou à sortir le destructeur de documents pour trois factures, et ce tampon rouleau est vraiment la solution idéale. Le motif est hyper dense et couvre parfaitement les informations sensibles : une fois qu'on est passé dessus, impossible de lire l'adresse ou les chiffres en dessous, même par transparence. Ce que je trouve top avec ce kit, c'est qu'il est livré avec des recharges d'encre. C'est bien pensé parce qu'on n'a pas besoin de racheter tout le bloc quand ça commence à fatiguer, il suffit de remettre quelques gouttes. L'encre sèche assez vite et ne bave pas trop, même sur les papiers un peu glacés des catalogues ou des enveloppes. C'est devenu un réflexe dès que j'ouvre le courrier : un coup de rouleau et ça part direct au recyclage en toute sécurité. C'est compact, ça traîne dans un tiroir et ça fait gagner un temps fou. Un petit accessoire vraiment malin pour protéger sa vie privée sans se prendre la tête.
