Works great and arrived quickly!
I ordered this to use for Thanksgiving. I totally forgot I had to throw our old one out and this was delivered really fast. This item is: • Sharp • Easy to hold • Works great • Is long and user friendly • Shaved all of the lemon peels off the lemons My only complaint is that these take some time to clean in general, but that's with any of these. I soaked it in some hot soapy water and was able to get the peel off without too much work. Overall, this is a well-made, sharp, and easy to use microplane. This is a must have, multipurpose too everyone needs in their kitchen, in my opinion.

Perfect standard of performance
The standard for a professional is absolutely microplane. From hard cheese, chocolate, and citrus zest all the way down to onion, spices, garlic, and ginger, the classic microplane will never shy away from finely depositing a extremely versatile amount of flavor via any form on, in, or around your dish. I've tried several microplane products, and while I can see the appeal (and still have a small one for spices specifically that I'll keep replacing as long as they make them for a convenient size and slightly smaller shreds) of other products in the microplane line, there's seriously nothing that compares to the versatility, perfect size, easy, quality, comfortable, every day can do attitude that a microplane brings to the table. I've tried the comfort grip ones, they wear out faster because of the handles. I've tried the ribbon one, the versatile nature of the microplane diminishes with the bigger holes. Stick with these, enjoy your life. I buy two every five to ten years or so depending on how much I use them, but ymmv.

Is this a PERFECT zester?
I picked up the Microplane version of the 4-sided box grater years ago, & I’ve wanted one of these ‘detail-oriented’ versions for a while. Ordered it on impulse filling up a $25 It’s strong, sturdy, & well-made, it’s easy to handle, & it zests perfectly If it has a flaw, it is that I expected slightly more ‘tooth’. Examining the plane of the grater closely, I can see that the teeth are set just shy of (slightly below) that plane. This set makes it a perfect zester, & I’ll bet it’s terrific if you want nutmeg or cinnamon & fluffy Parmesan, but I can’t use this as a grater except for more-or-less special cases I’ve since ordered a top-rated/top-selling German strip-grater like the Microplane, & compared the two vs a thumb-sized piece of ginger (as one has a ‘stand’, I used each handheld). Beginning with the Microplane, I was unable to accumulate any grated ginger; the other grater grated the entire thing rather quickly…so I won’t rely on the Microplane for vegetables, but that’s *my* use-case The Microplane’s perfection is effortless - all the zest, no pith, no skill, right out of the box, first stroke. Practice can only improve results. Did I mention it handles beautifully? It’s well worth keeping

Excellent Product
I've always wanted a chef's restaurant quality micro plane, and this is it. The metal is high quality, the handle is large, it has a hole for hanging and made with solid plastic. It's worked for me for years and is an excellent price. I grate zest, cinnamon, nutmeg and spices with ease.

Almost perfect.
Everything you've heard about this microplane is true. It's razor-sharp and effortlessly glides through a brick of cheese. It zests citrus, grates nutmeg, and shaves chocolate into delicate mounds of powder-fine cocoa-y goodness. It's shiny and lovely and actually stays that way, due to high-quality stainless steel. Unfortunately, I'm taking away a star because every time I use it, I get wads and wads of cheese stuck under the curved back edges (you can see what I mean in the 3rd picture, where the model is awkwardly grating cheese with the plane held upside-down. I actually tried that, and it's absurd). Maybe that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's a lot of cheese, maybe 1/2 oz, each time! Imagine what I'd waste in a month. So I have to dig the cheese out and it gets smooshed because it's already so finely grated, and when I'm through I end up with something like cheesy Play-Do. And that's not as appealing to me as it might be to say, a 3-year-old. If I were working for the good people at Microplane, I'd made the plane FLAT. Goodbye, wasted cheese and hello, five stars! Toss in a little plastic clamshell protective case and call it a day. And now I'm off for a nice 4-margarita company lunch. Kevin, hold my calls. **EDIT** About a week after I wrote this review, I used the microplane and attempted to get the stuck cheese out of that ridge. I stupidly slid my finger down it, trying to push out the cheese. What I got was a nasty cut on my index finger and a bloody wad of cheddar. Mind that edge, folks. Edit this post | Permalink

No other fine grater should ever be made or bought
I use my microplane at least once a day. It is insanely sharp, cleans in seconds, very durable (can take a lot of force against it--see update below), and is THE tool for zesting and grating anything at a pretty fine level. These last for years, I've never seen them bent unless someone tried to do so, and they are always very even in their grating. One note: don't use this for any cheese unless its very cold and you want it to become string-thin. If at all warm, the cheese will basically reclump since it has been grated so fine and had so much friction applied to it from the fine microplane. UPDATE 1/28/14 I've now had my microplane for a year and a half, and the blade is just as sharp as when I first received it. Really--it is incredibly well made. The handle has also not given out at all but is still firmly attached to the blade and has excellent grip. I use it 5 times a week on average I would say. The only thing that gave out was the plastic cover. A few days I found a crack on one side which quickly ran down the entirety of it, splitting it in two. I only ever handwash the grater and cover, so I was a little disappointed that it broke. But I called microplane customer service (very short hold time, very nice representatives) and with no questions asked had a replacement sent out free of any charge within minutes. I didn't expect any less from microplane, but great to know that they take care of their customers :) My one minor gripe with this zester that has come out over the past 18 months of use: the end doesn't have any kind of rubber cap, so if you use the microplane by leaning the end against a cutting board and holding it at a 35 or 45 degree angle to it, it wont slip (the two end corners are so sharp that they hold onto the wood), but it does etch little cuts/grooves into the board that are deeper than I like. Of course cutting boards are meant for being used and not artworks, but still--I don't want them to get roughed up from grating of all things. This is really a minor problem, and if you grate by pressing the grater horizontally above whatever bowl you're grating into, you won't have this problem (though in that case it can slip back and forth if it is a metal or glass bowl, and if its plastic or wood you may experience the same cutting into the material from the edges that I described from the end.) All in all, this brings my experience of the microplane down to 4.8 stars--something like that does not change how delightfully effective the blade is, and how easy it is to clean (always be hand!).
